How We Met

SOOOO this is exciting! Eddy and I met when I was 13 years old and he was 15. We met by mutual friends, my best friend at the time and his current still best friend, Orly. Eddy was pretty much a walking God to me, I thought (and still do) that everything about him and everything he did was perfect. We met in a mall, down here where we are from- Dolphin Mall in Miami Florida. We hung out every weekend, and as much as our parents would allow us to since they were the main source of transportation at the time. He was living about 40 minutes South from me, and we would manage to make his mom drive to my house everyday in the weekend, just to spend as much time with each other as we could. Back then, it was more puppy love than anything. We dated until I was 16 or so… this is just the half of our love story! We rekindled again as young adults- I was 23 and he was 25, we’d always kept in touch through social media but never spoke or had an actual conversation until then. We’ve basically been inseparable since then and it felt like if I was 13 all over again.

how they asked

The day of our proposal was technically January 1, 2018 because it was about half an hour past midnight. Eddy gathered our entire family together to spend New Years Eve together, we spent it at his sister Rosy’s house. Everything was going great, as per your typical Cuban family, we had loud music on, lots of chaos, but so much fun. Time well spent with family, he invited my best friends, his best friend, my siblings, of course my mother, etc. Here is where he is sneaky but so smart… our friend Stephanie asked me, “Christine, can you come with me outside to get pjs for Mason?” (Her 2-year-old) I went out to her car with her. She was taking rather long and it was chilly outside, one of the very rare cold nights in Miami. Eddy came outside too, Eddy’s brother-in-law Errol came outside and rushed us inside I don’t even remember for what. So we all went inside, when I walked back inside of the house, I heard the “Beauty and the Beast” theme song (I love Disney, too much I think) and I thought nothing of it. I just said to Eddy “I love this song” and began singing as we walked to the backyard where we were all night.

Stephanie disappeared I don’t know how but she was no longer walking next to me, and when we came outside, it was very quiet and everyone was under the tiki hut with their cameras and phones out, flash on, I was so confused. Eddy took my hand and walked me up to the tiki hut, I looked at everyone with a weird look on my face. Until I finally looked right in front of me and I saw the Beauty and the Beast flower covered by the glass just as since in the movie, with a tiny chalk board saying “Will you Marry me?” I immediately began to cry and turned around to find Eddy down on one knee and asked me if I’d marry him. First thing that came out of my mouth was “did you ask my dad?” He said yes, and then I said yes. He was so nervous he dropped the ring and went to put it on my middle finger! My heart was pounding just as much as his was I am sure. Everyone hugged and congratulated us and then my future sister-in-law played the song “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran for us to dance because she says it describes us perfectly! Now we are ready to live our fairy tale life together!
