How We Met
Taurean and I met when we were both in high school while we volunteering at church during kid’s church. We didn’t start dating until I was a junior in high school and he was in college. I was constantly third wheeling with my high school bestie and her boyfriend, until they decided I needed someone to keep me company. We dated for two years until the summer before I started college. We were just so young and needed lots of time to grow up and become the people we were destined to be.
Eight years later, we never really lost touch since we kept a lot of the same friends (friends who always held a torch for us getting back together!). After years apart, we connected again during our mutual best friends’ engagement party at the end of 2014. In the months that followed we had a whirlwind romance. Both of us admitted to each other that we knew if we ever got back together it would be forever.
how they asked
We decided together that we wanted to get married, and that we really wanted a destination wedding. On a quick trip to venue search in the Dominican Republic, we decided it would also be a good time to check out a photographer whose work I really loved. Melinda from ShoeBox Photography was happy to book us for a quick photo shoot. What I didn’t know was that Taurean had contacted her earlier to tell her of his own plan.
While we were taking pictures Melinda was playing music, and all of a sudden our song Firestone by Kygo came on. We both got really excited and danced to it for a couple of seconds. Melinda and Taurean had planned the song as a cue for him to begin his proposal. She asked us if we had any special poses in mind and Taurean responded that he had … a question….
He dropped down to one knee and began telling he believed that God’s timing was perfect and that He had perfect timing for our story, which was perfectly unfolding. He quoted to me Ecclesiastes 3:11 “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”
Then he asked me to be his wife and slipped a gorgeous ring on my finger! It was hard to remember anything except that I said YES!
