Christina and Eric

Christina and Eric's Engagement in Florence, Italy

How We Met

Eric and I met in 2016 during his job interview. Yes, his job interview! I was his recruiter at the time. He was a referral by another employee who said he would be perfect for the job. Before he came in for the job interview, I was in Greece at the time on vacation, so setting up his interview oversees was not the best candidate experience, Ill get back to this later. After a couple of weeks, he came in for his interview. I thought he was polite and professional but I’ll tell you I was not attracted to him AT ALL! After his interview, the team told me they loved him and wanted to hire him. I then extended the offer to him, he was excited and told me he would get back to me in a week. A week later, he declines the offer…. the heck! He told me that was deciding to quit his current job and backpack through Europe. When I told the team, they said to keep in touch with him so when gets back to see if he would still be interested. I wish Eric best of luck on his travels hope to be in touch for the future.

2 months later, I get an email from Eric. He asks me if I would like to get lunch. He remembers me being in Greece during his interview process, so he wanted to get some insight into the country and where to go, etc. I thought there was no harm, especially since I wanted to hire him later. During our lunch, Eric was very professional was taking notes, all the good stuff. As we finished up, he asked if I would follow him on Instagram so I can see where he goes on his travels. I laughed and said sure…

Fast forward 3 months later, I message Eric asking about his trip and if he would be interested in taking his previous job offer. He said that he was going to stay in Maryland and not take a job out in Virginia. No problem…But this time he asked if I’d like to get dinner and catch up. I said sure…

Best Dinner Date ever. He shared his food with me, we laughed, we cracked jokes at each other. I mean we hit it off. I couldn’t believe I wasn’t attracted to him at first, but here I was, finding him perfectly charming and a sweetheart. After dinner, we decided to make plans to see each other again. From there, many more dinner dates, adventures, traveling and making new memories.

How They Asked

In August of 2019, we decided to take a trip to Italy. One of the places I had been dying to travel to. Eric had been to Italy before but was willing to go again since he loved it so much. On the second day we arrived in Florence, he told me he was going to take me to his favorite place in Florence, the Michelangelo Steps. As we walked the MANY steps in the blistering heat, I was excited to get to the top. It was so worth it, you could see the entire city, covered in that beautiful orange mirage. I asked Eric what was next, he said he wanted to watch the sunset, I promptly said back to him, “babe its 4 PM, sunset isn’t until 7 PM, did you plan for us to be up here waiting for 3 hours?”. I started to get a little antsy. He said we could get a drink at the bottom of the town then come back up to watch the sunset. I was immediately irritated, I was hoping he would include me in the travel plans for the day.

I struggled it off and started walking down the hill to get to the town. Eric was behind me walking slowly, he yelled my name, “Christina can I ask you question”, I said yes, what is your question? Eric starts digging in his pocket, I have no clue why, he’s really struggling, and I am so confused. All of a sudden he pulls out this gorgeous ring, drops to one knee and asks, “will you marry me?”. I blackout, burst in tears, drop to my knees to hug. Eric did comment that I said yes, in between all that drama. As we were hugging and kissing, I see this man taking pictures of us and getting closer and closer. As he got closer, Eric explained: “this is Davood our photographer we have him for the next 2 hours”.

Eric had thought of EVERYTHING. I was so impressed. He did plan the day, perfectly. After taking pictures, we watched the sunset, while a man played Spanish guitar while we drank Montepulciano. It was just more than I could have ever dreamed of. After dinner, Eric made a dinner reservation at The Golden View restaurant. It was AMAZING, perfect service, a true golden view, and the perfect view of all my fiancé.

We spent the rest of our time in the rest of Florence, Chianti, Amalfi, Rome, Sorrento, Ravello, Positano, as if every day was the day we got engaged.

This is a day, rather our trip will be something I will remember for the rest of my life. It was more than I could ever imagine.

Thank you for listening to our love story.

Christina.

Special Thanks
