Christie and Michael

Christie and Michael's Engagement in Fire Island, New York

How We Met

My fiance and I met on June 23, 2014, I went to a summertime bar on Long Island with my girlfriends. While being a good wing girl for my friend, another of my friends grabs us and says “We’re going on this guys boat! I know him from college.” So my three friends and I hopped on this boat with three guys. It wasnt until the boat was in motion that I realized I had a little to much to drink. We ended up on Fire Island at this bar called “The Casino.” While standing at the bar for a water, one of the guys, Mike, swoops in and offers to buy me a drink. Considering I knew I shouldn’t have another cocktail, I ordered a coffee, he ordered a jack on the rocks. I remember thinking “jack on the rocks? Jeez he doesn’t mess around” We didn’t talk much the rest of the night. On the boat ride home he offered to take me and my girlfriends back home. I hopped in the front seat and he put on country music (which is ALL I listen to!). More specifically Riverbank by Brad Paisley. We sang together the whole way home, exchanged numbers, and you can say the rest is history!

how they asked

Well three years later, June 25, 2017, we were meeting my sister for brunch at “The Casino” bar to meet this new guy she was seeing. We walk up the long boardwalk to the restaurant and I notice the place is a ghost town. The hostess quickly seats us at a table. My sister is no where in sight, were the only people in the whole restaurant! Theres drinks for us already on the table, jack on the rocks for him, coffee for me. I was so confused I asked the waitress if other people were sitting there already (Lol).

To which Mike said “no, just sit down…” we sipped out drinks and what song do you think comes piping through the speakers? Riverbank by Brad Paisley. At this point I realized what was happening and started laughing/crying.

He said lets take a picture with the beach in the background, as I stand up and look out at the beach, there was a huge sign that said “Will you marry me?” Out on the beach. I turned around and Mike was down on one knee. I don’t remember much that he said but I still get butterflies when I talk about this day. Mike really paid attention to every detail and made proposing so special and personal for us. Our wedding is now booked for July 27th, 2018!
