How We Met
I had just recently moved to Tampa, FL for graduate school and happened to bump into a childhood friend who also grew up with me in Rhode Island. Every time we hung out him and his coworkers would always tell me about this “joe.” Apparently, it was quite obvious that before we even knew each other, our mutual friends knew we were the perfect pair. After the first time we met (while I was actually dating someone else) Joe kept making more and more appearances within our group.
A few months later when I was single again, he made the decision to ask me out on a date. I tried to deny that he was absolutely perfect for me in the beginning, and eventually, I realized that Joe was my perfect match. He was the best cheerleader during my long grueling master’s degree and stuck it out for our long distance relationship as I traveled the country for my clinical rotations. Finally, we both settled down to our jobs in Miami and now share a home together.
how they asked
We both flew up to Rhode Island, where I grew up for the 4th of July. My aunt and uncle were kind enough to invite us out on their boat for a beautiful day on the ocean. We ended our perfect day of fun in the sun with dinner at the New York Yacht Club, looking over the ocean and the Newport bridge. The view was breathtaking! My cousins had been using their GoPro all day, so having it out at dinner didn’t seem the least bit strange. We decided to take an after-dinner walk down to the shore where all of the boats were sitting perfectly under the setting sun.
As we headed toward the end of the dock. Joe grabbed my hand and next was down on one knee with the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen! It meant the world to me that I got to say yes surrounded by family and friends in the place I grew up as a little girl!
