How We Met
We met on the soccer field back in 2012. I had just moved back to RI and through mutual friends we scrimmaged together once a week, and soon we joined a team together, just as friends. I went to a wedding as a guest and Stephen was in the wedding (this was the first time he saw me in non-soccer clothes) and he liked what he saw!
We started dating in August 2012 and the rest is history!
how they asked
This is actually a pretty funny story — we got invited to go up to Maine to stay in a cabin with a couple friend of ours on Memorial Day weekend. I was so excited.. I love Maine, I love the couple we were going with, and I love that it was for a long weekend. Jay and Amanda (the couple we were going with) said we were staying in a cabin that Jay’s boss owned.. Sweet! Good deal on the cabin then!
Skipping ahead– I had a suspicion, as time got closer, that he was going to propose!! I kept asking him questions, to feed my suspicion, and I got really weird answers, BUT I let it slide and just kept playing along. One week before the trip, I couldn’t hold it in any longer and I asked “Are you going to propose this weekend??” and got a nightmare response. Stephen was so mad that I found out, he said “Jay and Amanda invited us to go with them on a nice long weekend, don’t make this all about you!!” and I started to cry, and had no interest in asking him any more questions.
The weekend to get away came and I was so excited. Our second night there, we went on walk on Marginal Way (which if you have never seen it before, you are missing out) because it is gorgeous and we went right at sunset before dinner. Perfect planning because we were all dressed up for dinner. Amanda is a professional photographer so she always has her camera in hand everywhere we go to snap shots, so I did not think anything of it that she had her camera with her on our walk. Jay secretly had his go-pro filming everything. We walked a little and then found a perfect spot on the rocks overlooking the water, where Stephen got on one knee and proposed. Amanda captured every emotion, and despite the fact that I had a feeling it was going to happen, I was completely thrown off guard!
