How We Met

Holden and I have known each other since middle school and first began dating our freshman year at Park Vista High School. He was my first boyfriend and even though we dated briefly, I had a gut feeling I was going to marry him one day.

As life would have it, we reconnected several years down the road in 2015 when the timing was right. I asked him out on a “platonic” date that wasn’t all that platonic (unknown to Holden, I still had a huge crush on him). It was on that casual pizza date downtown where we both realized our feelings for each other. After our first kiss since reconnecting, I’ll never forget him saying, “I knew I was going to marry you one day.”

The rest was history! Holden is the love of my life, my best friend, and my rock. He has moved to different cities with me, cared for me when I was sick with COVID and pneumonia, and supported all of my dreams and aspirations as if they were his own. I don’t know a better person.

How They Asked

About a month before our engagement, a photographer I had worked with before had asked me if Holden and I would be interested in doing a couples shoot on the beach for her portfolio. I told her I would need to convince him but we were definitely interested. To my surprise, Holden agreed pretty easily so we scheduled a date for the shoot on June 18th… our anniversary.

I started to become suspicious so I called my sister, Stephanie, to excitedly share my engagement theories. She immediately dismissed it all as a pure coincidence and that as far as she knew, Holden had no plans of proposing that weekend so I should reframe my expectations. I went from being 90% sure it was happening to about 70%. Although I was very surprised she didn’t want to at least theorize with me and why she was so harsh about it. Nevertheless, I got my nails done just in case!

The morning of our shoot, we pulled up to the beach, and before I got out of the car, I put my belongings in his glove compartment. In my excitement, I did not notice the huge Kay Jewelers box RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME (we had a good laugh about this later).

We began our sunrise photoshoot with Leslie Nunez of Deco + Grae Photography as she was giving us posing prompts to follow. She then told me to close my eyes as Holden whispered to me his favorite memory. While it’s all a romantic blur, he said something along the lines of, “I don’t have a favorite memory because my favorite memory is happening right now,” and he got down on one knee.

It was the best moment of my life as I hugged him, kissed him, and cried tears of joy. It felt like a dream! The love of my life proposed to me on the beach at sunrise with our song (“Lover” by Taylor Swift) playing softly in the background. It was beyond my expectations!

We still had a beach picnic (by Revelation Events Co) waiting for us and I couldnt imagine the morning getting any better. We walk up to our picnic and our families burst out of the bushes to surprise me! I was completely speechless and overjoyed that my sisters were there to celebrate our special moment with us.

Come to find out that this whole plan was 6 months in the making! Holden reached out to the photographer back in December 2021, made all the arrangements with the picnic vendor, asked my dad and each of my sisters for their blessings, and planned all of the details that he knew would mean alot to me. It was the best day of my life. I know the only thing that can top this is the day that I get to call him my husband.

Holden, I love you with all my heart. Thank you for making me the happiest woman alive. I can’t wait to be your wife.
