How We Met
Rick had just moved to LA for a few months to see if he wanted to move his career in the entertainment industry to the west coast from NYC. While he was here he wanted to meet some new friends and even go on a few dates… but was not looking for a boyfriend. He joined OKCupid while in LA and on the first day he got a message from Chris. Chris had been on a few bad dates on OKCupid and when he saw Rick’s profile, he found Rick to be cute and either seemed to be fun, or at the very least a good profile writer. Rick was traveling for work and Chris was in Pennsylvania spending his birthday with family and friends, so our first week was all text and email. We had one night in LA that overlapped and decided to meet for dinner on what just happed to be the 20th anniversary of the release of First Wives Club – one of our favorite movies.
How They Asked
Rick: Everyone asks who proposed to whom!?!? Chris proposed to me. We were planning a trip to Italy and Chris wanted to know if there was anything in particular I wanted to do or see. I said I really wanted to drive from Rome to Montefino, a small town of less than 1,000 people on the eastern coast of Italy where my great grandparents came from.
Chris: I had decided that I wanted to ask Rick to marry me… I just wasn’t sure when or where but I had ordered the rings already. When he told me about Montefino, I knew exactly when and where I wanted to ask him! To say the day itself was an adventure would be an understatement to begin with, and add in that I had no idea if Montefino would be picture perfect or hovel covered in chickens and goat, and you have a built-in adventure!
Rick: After an overwhelming day of exploring, talking to locals about my family, and an amazing lunch, it was time to drive back to Rome. Just as we were about to leave, Chris said, with tears in his eyes, “I have a question to ask you.” He couldn’t contain his emotion and he said something beautiful and private and pulled out the ring. Was taken by surprised and shocked but it was a resounding YES! Then I asked if he had two rings, which he did, and through smiles and tears, I proposed right back.
