How We Met – by Chris: I met Nick back in August of 2009 while we were both still trying to pass as ‘straight’ with our friends and families. That being the case, we met online and after a few weeks of emailing back and forth decided to meet for dinner and a movie. I remember being parked at the restaurant, nervous to go in, but he stepped out to call and make sure I was on my way. To this day, I still joke that he was attempting to look like a cowboy on that first date and once I saw him, I knew I had to get to know this guy. We had an Italian dinner where we divulged way too much about each other for a first date and followed it with going to see “The Hurt Locker” at a local movie theater. At the end of the night he drove me back to my car and nerves got the better of him as he gave me a high five rather than a kiss. As time passed, we moved in together and eventually purchased a home with two beautiful dogs. Due to our religion and the process of “coming out” in general, there have been some worthwhile hurdles but I knew I wanted to ask this man to marry me last August as we hit our 5th anniversary of that infamous high five.
how they asked: Chris asked Nick to marry him at Sunset Cliffs in San Diego, CA. Nick had no idea that the proposal was going to happen that day so it was really exciting to see his reaction to everything. Chris chose the spot and I couldn’t be happier with where he wanted to do it. Everything was just perfect.
