How We Met
Chris and I met off of the Bumble App, and were each other’s first dates off the app. After both going through a few terrible relationships, both of our friends just happened to encourage us to go on, and within 6 hours on the app we both liked each other. We went on a date a few days later, and instantly clicked. I remember going to the bathroom to ward off my friends who were going to send an “emergency” text if the date was wrong so I had a good excuse to leave. Instead, I sent a text message “I think I met the one”, and I have never looked back.
how they asked
I (Ashley) grew up in Upstate, New York, and frequented all the wineries and the Finger Lakes region as a kid. I told Chris how badly I wanted to take him up there to see the region, as I believe its one of the most beautiful places in the world. We traveled back home up to New York from North Carolina for my dad’s surprise party. My dad was under the impression that Chris and I were coming up for July 4th weekend. I was under the impression that Chris’ parents and sister was coming to the party to join in on the festivities because our families got along so well!
The following day after the surprise birthday party, we decided to take a day trip to the wineries on the Finger Lakes. Chris had asked when we were getting ready if his outfit looked familiar, and I knew it was the same exact outfit he wore on our first date. I didn’t think anything of it, because I knew we were all dressing up a little for family photos with the beautiful scenery.
After a few wineries, we finally arrived at the Thirsty Owl. I could tell Chris was getting anxious but I thought it was from all of the wine we had drank. It’s my favorite winery on the Finger Lakes because it has breathtaking scenery of Cayuga Lake below. I had told Chris about it for at least a year, and had asked Chris to come with me to take pictures…not realizing I had set myself up!
As we were walking Chris had started to tell me how much he loved me and couldn’t imagine spending his life with anyone else. I kept snapping photos. Something in is voice had changed as he was speaking, and I looked over to see him grinning ear to ear. Before I knew it, I looked over and he was down on one knee! I remember looking up the hill and seeing all of our family watching and grinning.
We got to spend the rest of the day celebrating with our families!! It was perfect.
