How We Met: Jake and I met on match.com. I walked into Regatta in Green Bay on January 21, 2012, and when Jake caught side of my smile (as he says) the heavens parted, angels sang, and the rest is history.
how they asked: Jake put all men to shame with his elaborate proposal. He truly has ruined it for all other guys trying to bring their A-game. Our Christmas gift to each other last year was a weekend in Chicago where we wanted to ice skate in Millennium Park, something we talked about on our very first date.
After exploring the city for the day, we finally got on the ice and were skating around when they made an announcement that the Zamboni was coming to clean the ice, so everyone had to vacate the rink.
I started heading to the exit and I was getting embarrassed because Jake was lolligagging getting off the ice, so I was afraid we would get yelled at. He finally looked at me and said “Do you trust me?” and we were alone on the rink. It started to set in when I heard our song “God Gave Me You” over the park speakers and Jake pulled me to the center of the rink. He mumbled some very nice things between alligator tears and asked me to be his wife.
Jake arranged for my parents and his family to be in the crowd and watch, and also hired a professional photographer and videographer to capture the once-in-a-lifetime moment.
To top it off we got a photoshoot in Millennium Park after, and one final surprise: he had made me a mock wedding invitation for the following summer with our wedding date already reserved at the country club I always wanted to get married at, Thornberry Creek. THAT was the biggest surprise of all.
I told my man I wanted a “good engagement story” and he sure delivered!
