How We Met
Matt and I met at the University of Oregon when we were 19 and 21 years old. It was my senior year, and I quickly became best friends with my new neighbors, who just so happened to be Matt’s fraternity brothers and best friends. Matt and I instantly became very good friends who loved to have a good time. We spent so much time together, and it wasn’t long before everyone started asking if we were more than friends. Matt and I always answered, “We’re just besties!”.
Our friends saw something between us that we hadn’t even noticed yet. It wasn’t long before they were aggressively trying to set us up. Lo and behold, after a party one night at said neighbors house, Matt finally built up the courage to kiss me. The rest is history.
How They Asked
Matt and I had been dating for 5 years before he popped the question. We had overcome 2 years of long distance and had been living together for the last 3 years. I knew within a month of dating him that I was going to marry him. On the night of January 26th, we had plans to get dinner with Matt’s boss and his wife. On our drive over, Matt told me they were running late so we should pull over and watch the sunset to kill time. Matt and I regularly do this, so it didn’t feel out of the ordinary or anything. Once we arrived, I look up at this stunning gazebo on a cliff overlooking the ocean.
It was completely covered in rose petals, candles, and twinkling lights. I truly have never seen anything so beautiful in my life. He walked me through the rose petals until we were standing in the gazebo, and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. It still feels like a dream and was the best day of my existence. We are each other’s first loves and are the truest definition of soulmates. I can’t wait to spend forever with my best friend!
