How We Met

One of the few Tinder success stories! I was living in Santa Barbara and was one month away from moving back to Orange County. Mason was working with Casa Pacifica as a child and family specialist, which brought him to Santa Barbara about twice per week. We both joined the dating app Tinder because “Why not?”. Mason and I matched with each other in January 2015. I made the first move with the line, “If you were a fruit, you would be a fineapple!”

Mason loved it and we began texting back and forth about our lives and our dreams. This continued for a whole month before we were actually able to meet in person. Mason came down to Orange County to take me on our first date, which he had me pick since he wasn’t familiar with the area. We met at ESPN Zone in Anaheim, where we broke the ice by playing air hockey and Guitar Hero. After dinner, they went to a local karaoke bar and sang “This Is How We Do It” by Montel Jordan as a duet. There was immediate electricity and we already felt like best friends. It was the easiest and best decision I’ve ever made.

how they asked

Mason told me that we were going horseback riding and to dress for the occasion. I had been asking him to go horseback riding with me since we started dating, mostly because I love horses and I think its a fun date. To be honest, I was suspicious because he out of the blue planned this, but I didn’t let him know I had caught on. We rode horses at Madonna Inn, a gorgeous little historical inn on the hillside of San Luis Obispo. When we got through the whole ride and he hadn’t stopped us to propose, I thought maybe I was wrong. As I dismounted my horse, I turned around and he was on his knee. He said, “Chelsea, you make me happier than I’ve ever been and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.” Then he showed me THE MOST PERFECT ring I ever could have imagined. Of course I said yes and kissed him, but I didn’t know he had our photographers hiding in the corral! We had an adorable engagement photoshoot. As we headed to the inn to have lunch, he had ANOTHER surprise for me that I didn’t even suspect. All of my friends and family live out of town, and he invited them up for a surprise engagement party! It was so special to be able to celebrate that moment with everyone close to me in person. Mason is so thoughtful, loving, and the true meaning of a life partner. I can’t wait to be his wife.
