Chelsea and Cameron
Cameron and I officially met in 2010, both of us were attending Fullerton College. We also happened to be members at the same gym. I had heard of him in high school, we were in the same graduating class of 2009 but we attended opposing schools from eachother which are the cross-town rivals. Our meeting was fate, and though i love telling the story, the proposal is my favorite… So, fast forward nearly 5 years later, we know just about everything about each other, have survived being in a long distance relationship for 2 of our 5 years together (Cameron went away for college baseball), and we are just crazy in love.
Friday, March 13th. I had just graduated from my two weeks of radio academy training for 911 dispatching that day, and we had plans to drive to San Clemente for the weekend with Cameron’s family for a little mini vacation. I hadn’t seen him all week leading up to Friday, and i was super grumpy each night that he would cancel our plans to see each other… Little did i know he was just too nervous to see me before the big day, and that was why he kept coming up with reasons why we should just wait to see each other on Friday.
When i finally got to see his face, my grumpy mood from the days prior were instantly old news. We got in the car to head down to the beach, and i went on and on asking him if he wouldnt mind walking on the beach with me at sunset, maybe taking pictures together, go to dinner just the two of us; etc.
Should have been a hint: he said, sure we can go for a walk at sunset, i looked it up earlier….
So once we got to the beach, we went for our walk. It was really hot out as well, and he was wearing a black shirt and sweating, so i basically demanded that he took his shirt off, and was like, why are you being so weird? Just take it off, we’re at the beach for goodness sakes… I can see why he hesitated now, but he probably took it off so i wouldn’t suspect anything…
Guys… Cameron knows me REALLY WELL. When the sun began it’s colorful descent, i pulled out my iphone and told him i wanted to take some pictures of us on a timer. So i set it up, ran over, and we took a few. I had gotten a couple good ones so i said, okay, last one. I clicked the button, ran over to stand with him, and he got to his knee. All i could say at first was.. “Cameron, is that real? Is this really happening?” And he said “yes, Chelsea, will you marry me?” OBVIOUSLY i said yes.
BUT. Something made me kind of sad. I knew we were in San Clemente with HIS family for the weekend, but i’m so close to my family as well, and i wanted to share the happiness with them.
He told me i could make my phone calls once we got back to the car. So we are smiling and walking back down the beach when i see it… My grandma’s bright hair. I turned and looked at him with awe. He invited my WHOLE family, and they were all standing on the beach along with his family waiting for our arrival, with my favorite, sunflowers, in their hands.
We had a little celebration in the hotel afterwards. It was perfect, and unexpected. I am a VERY observant person, and he got me.
I adore him, and cannot wait to be married to such a caring and thoughtful man.
