How We Met
I was single and living in Rhode Island at the time and was searching on the dating site “Plenty of Fish” for any local single guys in my area. I had just come out of a long term relationship so I wasn’t looking for anything serious but figured I would try it out anyway. By mistake, I accidentally set my search out 50 miles and somehow found a very handsome man living in Massachusetts whose profile really caught my eye. Despite the distance, I decided to message him anyway and we hit it off immediately. After a day of texting and face-timing I knew I had to meet him in person so I told him I was going to drive to his house that night when he got off work. Normally, driving to a strange man’s house that lives in another state that you’ve never met isn’t the best of ideas but clearly my instincts about him were dead on. I arrived at his house at 11 pm and we hung out and watched a movie. I immediately knew he was the one when as the movie was playing, he got up and went to get a blanket because he could sense I was cold. He came back, wrapped me up in the blanket and squeezed me tight and after seeing his genuine thoughtfulness and concern for me, even in the smallest of circumstances, I knew in that very minute that I had found the man of my dreams.
how they asked
He told me months before the proposal that he wanted to take me to Las Vegas for my birthday. Neither of us had ever been to Vegas before and we were both very excited to go for the first time. We started dating on December 23, 2012 and have been together just over three years and like most couples in our situation, we had talked about marriage in the past. However, while I knew he had every intention of proposing some day, never in a million years did I expect it on this trip! On the day of my birthday, he told me he wanted to take me to a nice dinner and said he found a great restaurant on Fremont Street. So we both dressed up and headed out for the night. We walked around Fremont Street for a little while until we settled in a spot to watch a light show that started on the large video screen they have on the ceiling. As the show was going on, Andrew told me he had to run to the bathroom and to stay right where I was so we didn’t lose each other. A couple minutes later the light show ended and as I’m standing there waiting for him to come back, the song “Marry You” by Bruno Mars starts playing over the loud speakers and four people start dancing in front of me. These four people then turned into eight, which then turned into a flash mob of over 30 people all dancing in unison! It was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen and I couldn’t believe he was missing it! Towards the end of the song, the flash mob danced their way into two lines, which then split apart and there was the man of my dreams standing at the other end! He walked down the path towards me, got down on one knee and told me how he loved me more than anything in the world and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me as everyone cheered! With tears rolling down my face, I said yes as our song “Amazed” began playing and our photo was displayed on the video screen saying “Congratulations to the future Mr. and Mrs. Tornetta” … It was the most unforgettable moment of my life and something we will never forget.
