How We Met
Brian and I met about 5 years ago at a mutual friend’s Christmas Eve dinner party. We were both seeing other people at the time (as he casually dropped he had a girlfriend into the conversation lol). I would go to the party every year with my family as the mural friend’s family were close family friends. We would see each other every year and say hi, catch up and that would be it. That all changed 3 years ago. He says that I came on to him when I walked over to him when he was sitting by his self. I felt bad for him because he didn’t really know anyone at the party and was just sitting by himself. So I walked over and started talking to him. I can’t even remember about what. So he took that as me coming on to him. I was in PA school during that time and I was studying for my boards to become a certified Physician Assistant. That was all I was focused on. I was literally doing practice board questions on my phone at the party lol. I wasn’t on social media at the time because I didn’t want any distractions. Once I passed my boards, I got back on social media and there was a DM waiting on me from him. Brian is an assistant buyer for Off Broadway Shoes so he gets the hook up on a lot of free shoes or discounts in the stores. So his DM basically said “let me know when you want your shoes, I got you. Here’s my number, text me so I have yours.” I literally still have the DM so I have proof lol. So technically he came on to me and made the first move. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. So I text him my number of course! We went to a basketball game with a group of his friends a few days later
and then had a one on one date a week later. The rest is history…
how they asked
At the beginning of the year, Brian and I decided to take a big trip. He wanted to go out to Seattle and Northern California to see the red woods and do winery tours. I wanted to go to Europe. I had never been and really wanted to go. I tried to plan the Seattle/Northern Cali trip but it became way to stressful so I decided to look into Europe. I started looking on Trip Advisor, but Europe is so big, where would we go? Ever since I saw the movie “While You Were Sleeing” (I’m a huge RomCom fanatic), I’ve always wanted to go to Italy. I decided to look on Groupon to see if there were in deals on Europe trips and lo and behold there was a few. I sent the info to Brian via email—8 day trip, 3 days in London, 3 days in Rome, 2 days of travel. It was perfect and the cost was practically a steal. When Brian saw the details of the trip and the price he was basically like “Lets do it!”. He also says that he said yes to avoid an argument. I didn’t care though–we were headed to Europe! So on August 20th, 2017 we flew to London. Spent 3 days there and had so much fun. London has a great history, great shopping, and a really fun nightlife. After 3 days in London, we flew over to Rome. We got there late on the first night so we literally ate dinner and then took a quick stroll to the Trevi Fountain, which was close to our hotel, for some quick pics. The next day we had tickets to tour the Vatican, which was amazing! The Sistine Chapel is absolutely breathtaking. After touring the Vatican we did a segway tour through Rome which was so much fun but tiring. We got to see so many sights. I highly recommend you doing it if you ever go to Rome. After the tour, we late lunch. We had the most amazing pepperoni pizza I’ve ever tasted (Rome is doing it right!) and then back to our hotel room to take a nap before dinner. Brian had researched restaurants in Rome and had already made reservations at a nice restaurant prior to us leaving for Europe (1st red flag). Brian never plans anything. He just goes with the flow. I’m the planner. So I should have known something was up but I just thought it was sweet that he made reservations for a nice dinner. We were also meeting my brother for dinner at the restaurant. I didn’t think anything about that either as my brother lives in Germany and he had planned to meet us in Rome when we first started planning the trip. So we get ready for dinner and I remember being so upset because my curling wand wouldn’t work with the adapter I broughy with me to Europe. I couldn’t curl my hair which was so frustrating but Brian said I looked beautiful so I let it go. I put on my red dress that my sister picked out for me prior to leaving for Europe (2nd red flag). She was so persistent that I needed to wear a nice dress to the dinner because we were in Rome and going to an upscale restaurant. Another sign I missed lol. We Uber over to the restaurant and as soon as we step out of the car there is this huge red carpet leading up to this massive staircase and building with huge columns (totally a Rome-type restaurant). I looked back at Bran and said “Good job sir!” We headed into the restaurant and were seated. I remember looking at he menu and thinking wow these prices are really steep. My brother joined us at dinner a short time later. It was so good to see him. We ate amazing food, drank wine, and had great conversation. They seated us on the balcony and the weather was perfect. Our table overlooked the city of Rome so we were able to see The Vatican in the distance and the Pantheon. It was a sight that I will never forget. After dinner I was full and tired. I still wanted to take pics on the red carpet before heading back to the hotel. I told Brian this and he said “Oh yeah! That’s where it’s going down.” (3rd red flag) In my head I was like that’s weird of him to say but I let it go because I really wanted to take pics. So we went down to the red carpet leading up to the restaurant. My brother and I took pics together first and then Brian and I took pics together. As my brother starts taking the pics he then states that he is going to record. I remember getting frustrated and asking him “why are you recording, just take pics!” But I let it go because I was tired. So as he is recording Brian grabs my hand and turns to me and says “Babe, I love you so much. You are my world. I’ve got your brother here tonight. ” I interrupted and said “I know, he is standing right there.” Then he said “I wanted Trey (my brother) to be here on this special night.” As soon as he said that I immediately knew it was happening. I was so shocked. I covered my face and the next thing he said was “I want you to be my forever.” He gets down on one knee. Then says “Charmeen Elizabeth Mack, will you marry me?” I say yes so fast and he embraces me and gives me the most amazing hug and kiss. We literally remain in that embrace for minutes. It was like time stood still. I was so shocked I was literally shaking. I couldn’t believe it. Finally, I see the ring and it is gorgeous! Brian then proceeds to give me the ring to put on my finger and I say “no no you have to put it on my finger.” He says “oh right, my bad”
and places the ring on my finger. It was the most beautiful ring I’d ever see. He did such a good job! Meanwhile my brother is still recording all of this and comes up to give us a big hug. It was the best night ever! I will never ever forget it. Thank you Brian for choosing me. I love you baby!
