How we met
I met Cameron shortly after moving to San Marcos and while I was in grad school at Texas State. On February 21, 2015, since it was Friday night and my birthday weekend, my best friend and roommate at the time Lacy had an entire surprise birthday weekend in San Antonio planned out for me. I literally had no idea what we were going to do — she had everything planned and just told me what outfits to pack, how fun! So the night started in San Antonio with a massage and then dinner — which my sister who lives in Houston surprised me by showing up! Now later on Friday night, the three of us go to Cowboys dancehall to dance and celebrate the start of a wonderful weekend with my girls!
We have a great time at the dancehall and as the night nears closing time, me and my sister jokingly say we’re going to do one more “cowboy search” and walk a lap around the dancehall. We were giggling because we’d point out the cute cowboys (ok we might’ve had a few drinks at this point LOL). So we’re walking around the place and the next thing I know, my sister is talking to an extremely handsome cowboy! Now my sister is happily married, so she apparently walked right up to this handsome guy (CAMERON!) in a cowboy hat and vest and started telling him he needed to dance with her sister, and pointed at ME. I was so shocked she was talking to a stranger so I went up to them and apologized for her lol, then struck up a conversation with Cameron myself. We then found out it was his birthday that day (feb. 21) and mine was the very next day (feb 22). At the realization that we almost had the same birthdays, Cameron asked me if I wanted a beer. We sat there small talking for a few minutes then he asked me if I wanted to dance. We spent the entire rest of the night dancing our butts off! His friends he was there with that night kept trying to pull him away, saying they’re leaving soon, but he said he wasn’t leaving yet because he wasn’t done dancing with me. We danced and laughed, and danced some more. As the night neared closing hour and we finally had to stop dancing, he turned to me and said, “I’m not leaving here tonight without your number.”
The rest is pretty much history! We started talking and dating shortly after meeting that night. It’s a special story to me because if my best friend hadn’t planned the night and we had gone to that dancehall, I might not have ever met Cameron. And to top it off, if my sister hadn’t of “picked him out for me” and went up to him, I definitely would not have talked to a stranger, LOL! We were both out celebrating our birthdays and ended up meeting the love of our life that night. Every time I hear that song, “It all Started with a Beer” I smile — because that’s exactly what happened. We met, he asked if I wanted a beer, we danced, and we fell in love.
how they asked
Now the proposal still seems like a DREAM to me! It was beyond perfect and Cameron planned everything so perfectly — to the tiniest detail. He told me a week or so before the big day (Nov. 4, 17) that he had a special day at a winery planned for just he and I. He said we haven’t spent time together just US lately and he wanted to finally take me to this winery in Johnson City I’d been begging him to take me to for two and a half years, lol. I am a sunset and red wine fanatic; so Arc de Texas is literally heaven for me! Anyway, we got all dressed up and went to the winery and were having a nice time drinking a glass of wine and looking at the sunset. I kept taking Snapchats of him because he was so damn handsome with his sports coat and cowboy hat on. He completely surprised me, to say the least, when he told me to look at someone (the photographer) and the next thing I know I look back at him to find him standing there with a RING in an open ring box!! I stared in disbelief at this gorgeous ring and watched tearfully as he slowly lowered to get on a knee.
Choking back tears and struggling to find his voice, he said, “Will you marry me?” And I immediately responded, “YES!” It was the best moment of my life so far. I was so excited and shaky but couldn’t wipe the ear-to-ear smile on my face, like holy crap the love my life just asked me to be his wife! This is awesome!
I just remember hugging him tighter than I’ve ever hugged anyone and giving him about 50 kisses. It was just perfect. Our sweet photographer had been in on the surprise, which I’m SO happy Cameron thought of! He knows me so well… I love photos and capturing special moments. We took photos for an hour and laughed and kissed some more. The cherry on top of the cake was that he had my parents and his parents back at our house waiting on us to get back and celebrate with us! I was ecstatic! We are both extremely close with our families and it meant the world to me that my parents were able to celebrate the moment with us, especially since they live 5 hours away. We spent the rest of the night celebrating and talking about the future and enjoying the moment. I honestly can’t believe it all happened and is real — I truly feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
Cameron is more than just my knight in shining armor, he’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life shoulder to shoulder with him. We have fun every single minute we’re together, I think that’s what we both love the most about each other — we love life and we love laughing together, eating together, being goofy together — we’re just real and we’re just us, and it’s awesome.
I truly believe we were put on this earth to find each other. I don’t know what I ever did to deserve him and his love, but I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life trying to make him as happy as he makes me.
