Blog, Proposal Advice
If there’s one thing brides-to-be love perusing for inspiration as much as celebrity wedding dresses, it’s celebrity engagement rings.
Here, we’ve rounded them all up for you—the biggest celebrity engagement rings, the most expensive celebrity engagement rings, and the prettiest celebrity engagement rings. From Amy Adams’ one-carat beauty, which she styles with tricolor bands (just like Audrey Hepburn!), to Princess Kate’s 12-carat Ceylon sapphire royal engagement ring, scroll to see them all!
And tell us: Which of these celebrity engagement rings is your favorite?
Eleven months into dating, while on vacation in the Seychelles, the Seattle Seahawks’ quarterback, Russell Wilson, proposed to the “Goodies” singer on March 11, 2016, with an eye-popping engagement ring. Ciara’s engagement ring features a reported round, brilliant-cut, 16-carat center stone flanked by four smaller diamond baguettes. Four months later, the pair married in an ultra-romantic ceremony, which they hosted inside an English castle.
Aussie businessman James Packer proposed to Mariah Carey in March 2016 with one of the biggest celebrity engagement rings of all time: a 35-carat stunner, complete with an emerald-cut center stone and two tapered baguettes. The ring, designed by Wilfredo Rosado (Carey’s go-to jeweler and friend), was set in platinum. And the cost? Reportedly, a cool $10 million. Though the couple split seven months later, Mariah Carey’s engagement ring is reportedly still with the “Butterfly” singer.
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (née Kate Middleton) boasts one of the most famous celebrity engagement rings of all time: a 12-carat sapphire engagement ring, previously owned by the woman who would have been her mother-in-law, the late Princess Diana. Twelve smaller white diamonds surround the 12-carat Ceylon sapphire in Princess Kate’s engagement ring, which also features an 18-karat white gold setting. Prince William proposed to Middleton in the fall of 2010, while the two were vacationing in Kenya, and they were married in London’s Westminster Abbey the following April.
Pippa Middleton’s engagement ring was bound to be scrutinized—it’s part of the territory when you’re the sister of Kate Middleton. Still, Pippa’s art deco-inspired celebrity engagement ring is a beauty. Gifted to her by her fiancé, hedge fund manager James Matthews, in July 2016 (reportedly while on a romantic getaway in England’s Lake District), Middleton’s engagement ring features an Asscher-cut center stone surrounded by smaller white diamonds, all set in a bezel setting. The younger Middleton sister, who famously stole the show at the royal wedding in 2011, wed in May 2017.
Amy Adams’ longtime love, Darren LeGallo, proposed to the actress with a Jean Dousset seamless halo engagement ring—one of the first the designer ever made. After a seven-year engagement, the pair wed in a top-secret California ceremony. Since then, the actress has styled her engagement ring with three of Dousset’s Angelina wedding bands, one in each gold color.
Would you expect anything less than classic understatement from Lauren Conrad? The Hills alum accepted a proposal from her longtime love, William Tell, in October 2013, announcing the happy news via a ring selfie on Instagram. As for the engagement ring itself? Lauren ’s rock is a stunning diamond solitaire. When the pair married the following September in California, they exchanged rose gold wedding bands—Conrad’s embellished with tiny diamonds.
Long before Melania Trump became the First Lady, she was Melania Knauss, who accepted a proposal—and a 15-carat diamond engagement ring—from Donald Trump in 2004. The bauble’s worth? A cool $3 million, reportedly. The pair were married on January 22, 2005, at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.
Lady Gaga’s engagement ring from Taylor Kinney featured a heart-shaped center stone—especially fitting, as the pair got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2015. Designed by Lorraine Schwartz, the sparkler’s solitaire is a whopping 6 carats, set into a platinum band covered with pavé diamonds. And it gets more romantic: The base of the band reads “T<3S,” also embellished with diamonds, as Gaga’s real name is Stefani Germanotta. Sadly, the couple went their separate ways, and Gaga reportedly returned the ring.
Miranda Kerr’s engagement ring is the definition of understated—well, as far as celebrity engagement rings go. With a proposal from Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel, the Aussie model also accepted her second engagement ring: a 2.5-carat ring with a round center stone, flanked on each side by a tapered diamond baguette. Kerr announced their engagement via—what else?—social media, with a black-and-white photo of her ring and a Bitmoji illustration of Spiegel popping the question. They wed in May 2017.
While Miley and Liam may have been on and off for a while, they’re definitely back on again. The Aussie actor, who costarred in The Last Song with the Disney Channel alum, proposed to Cyrus with a 3.5-carat, cushion-cut diamond ring, set in an 18-karat gold setting intricately carved with a floral motif. The stone itself is an antique dating back to the late 19th century.
While the ring may be a beauty, Cyrus later revealed that her engagement ring is “not my aesthetic,” and joked that she occasionally swaps it out for things that feel more “her”—baubles with unicorns or Looney Tunes characters. The pair have yet to set a wedding date.
Kim Kardashian boasts more than one gigantic diamond ring in her collection, but one of our favorites has to be her engagement ring from husband Kanye West. On October 21, 2013, her 33rd birthday, West proposed to the reality star with a 16-carat Lorraine Schwartz ring, in front of family and friends at San Francisco’s AT&T Park, which he rented out for the occasion. The couple wed the following May in Florence, Italy.
Seeing double? When Rob Kardashian decided to propose to his love (and mother to his daughter, Dream), Blac Chyna, the Kardashian sibling decided on a familiar style—one that looked quite a bit like his sister Kim Kardashian’s engagement ring. Designed by Ben Baller, Blac Chyna’s engagement ring boasted a seven-carat round center stone set in a thin, pavé-studded band. Sadly, the couple split in the summer of 2017.
Ivanka Trump’s engagement ring from husband Jared Kushner is a stunner. In July 2009, Kushner gifted the future first daughter with a 5.22-carat engagement ring, complete with a cushion-cut center stone and an ultra-thin diamond band. And there was an easy way he knew she’d love it: It’s inspired by a piece in her jewelry line. Three months later, Kushner and Trump were married at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
While Blake Lively’s engagement ring also features a huge stone set in a pavé-studded band, there is one thing that makes the Lorraine Schwartz-designed piece unique: the center stone is pink. Ryan Reynolds went to Schwartz, a longtime friend of Lively’s and queen of celebrity engagement rings, to craft the reported 12-carat ring, which made its public debut only after the lovebirds tied the knot in September 2012. The wedding was held at the Boone Hall Plantation in South Carolina, where The Notebook was filmed.
Speaking of unique celebrity engagement rings, Eva Longoria’s bling from herhusband José “Pepe” Bastén tops the list for featuring a big ruby center stone. A bit similar to Princess Kate’s engagement ring (but with a ruby), Eva Longoria’s engagement ring, which Bastén proposed to the actress with while on vacation in Dubai in December 2015, also features an oversized halo of diamonds. The two married in Mexico the next summer, and Longoria wore a custom dress by one of her best friends, Victoria Beckham.
In a word, timeless. When Ricky Van Veen proposed to Girls actress Allison Williams in February 2014, he picked a classic as far as celebrity engagement rings (and engagement rings in general!) go. Van Veen popped the question with a solitaire featuring a three-carat, round-cut center stone, flanked by a diamond baguette on each side. A year and a half later, in September 2015, the pair said “I do” in Wyoming, where Williams wore a lace Oscar de la Renta dress—and Tom Hanks officiated!
When Nicky Hilton and James Rothschild got engaged in 2014, the British banking heir presented the Hilton heiress with an Asscher-cut engagement ring featuring a center stone between six and eight carats. In July 2015, the pair married at a venue fit for a prince and princess: Kensington Palace (aka the home of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge).
Carrie Underwood’s engagement ring also features a fancy stone: a canary-yellow diamond. As the story goes, before her now-husband, hockey player Mike Fisher, proposed, he co-designed Underwood’s engagement ring with one of her favorite jewelers, Johnathon Arndt, a go-to for celebrity engagement rings. The result? One heck of a sparkler, complete with that five-carat yellow diamond as the center stone. The ring also features a dazzling diamond halo and a diamond band. Those elements match Underwood’s diamond wedding band, which includes a curve to better fit around that rock.
Paint it black—that’s what Kat Von D’s former fiance, Deadmau5, did when he proposed to the celebrity tattoo artist. Von D’s engagement ring, designed by London-based The Great Frog, sets itself apart from the rest thanks to its center stone: a black diamond. That, of course, and the four tiny skulls that flank each side. Small black-and-white diamonds also appear on the celebrity engagement ring’s split-shank band. But the couple split before a wedding ever took place.
Talk about a unique celebrity engagement rings. Mary-Kate Olsen’s engagement ring, given to The Row designer in 2014, is a vintage Cartier piece, complete with a four-carat diamond center stone, a surrounding sapphire halo and small diamonds wrapped up the side like petals. The piece was purchased during a Sotheby’s jewelry auction for a cool $81,250 (which is actually modest among celebrity engagement rings!). Reportedly, the pair married the following November at a private residence in NYC in front of about 50 people.
Supergirl star Melissa Benoist married her Glee costar, Blake Jenner, in a secret ceremony in the spring of 2015. Before that, Jenner popped the question with an understated ring featuring a round center stone set into a subtly shimmering band. Benosit later paired it with a simple platinum wedding band. Unfortunately, the couple split in December 2016.
Dianna Agron’s engagement ring is also a study in simplicity—at least as far as the band goes. After becoming engaged to Mumford & Sons’ Winston Marshall in December 2015, the Glee actress debuted her stunner of an engagement ring—a four to six-carat diamond ring set in a simple yellow-gold band—at Paris Fashion Week in February 2016. Eight months later, the couple tied the knot in a lavish affair held at the Beldi Country Club in Morocco.
After dating only six months, Ian Somerhalder proposed to Nikki Reed in January 2015 with a vintage-inspired engagement ring: a floral-shaped beauty with an approximately four-carat center stone surrounded by 10 smaller round diamond “petals.” Three months later in April, the pair exchanged I do’s in an outdoor ceremony in Santa Monica.
What goes around comes back around! After dating for over a year, Evan Peters proposed to Emma Roberts with a gorgeous diamond halo engagement ring. The Hollywood couple has been on and off through the years, as has the ring on Roberts’ finger, and as of January 2017, the Scream Queens actress added a second engagement ring to her collection: an art deco-inspired beauty with a point-cut diamond surrounded by onyx-hued stones. No wedding date has been set just yet.
When it comes to celebrity engagement rings, Nicole Kidman’s engagement ring is quite untraditional, since it’s simply a band—but a bedazzled band! Her husband, Keith Urban, proposed with a diamond-studded Cartier ring featuring three bigger stones surrounded by lots of smaller stones. When they married in 2006, she paired it with an slightly thinner, equally stone-studded band with a channel setting.
While Jennifer Lopez admits that she’s been proposed to at least five times, there’s one engagement ring that will always stand out to us: the pink-hued diamond ring, gifted to her by her former fiancé—and Gigli costar—Ben Affleck. The 6.1-carat Harry Winston sparkler reportedly cost Affleck $2.5 million. But “Bennifer” didn’t stand the test of time, and after Lopez called off their engagement , she reportedly returned the ring.
When he finally decided to leave his life as an eternal bachelor behind, George Clooney proposed to British international rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin with the mother of all classic celebrity engagement rings: a truly stunning emerald-cut diamond, ethically-mined, with a seven-carat diamond center stone and two tapered diamond baguettes, all set in platinum. Clooney popped the question in April 2014 after just seven months of dating, and that September, the pair wed at a star-studded ceremony in Venice.
“You know me—it’s all about the bling-bling!” Vergara told Access Hollywood shortly after her Christmas 2014 proposal. And indeed, the Modern Family actress’ engagement ring from husband Joe Manganiello doesn’t disappoint. Manganiello popped the question with a seven-carat stunner, circled by a micro-pavé halo, while vacationing in Hawaii. The following November, the pair married in front of family and celeb friends at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida.
Crazy in love—with this ring! Most of the details surrounding Jay Z and Beyoncé’s courtship, engagement and April 2008 wedding have been kept secret by the pair, save for one detail: Beyoncé’s engagement ring, which is massive. Queen Bey’s rock, designed by Lorraine Schwartz, boasts a virtually flawless 18-carat center stone in an emerald cut, secured in a split-shank setting. The cost? About $5 million.
In 2012—after seven years and six children together—Brad Pitt popped the question and proposed to his longtime love, Angelina Jolie, with an engagement ring as unique as the actress. The responsibly sourced ring, co-designed by Pitt and jeweler Robert Procop, features a series of emerald-cut diamonds in various sizes. It reportedly took Pitt a year to design—and cost about $250,000. It took another two years for the couple to marry in a fairy tale affair held at their French chateau. Unfortunately, even after 11 years together, the couple split in September 2016.
What kind of an engagement ring do you give a rock-and-roll princess like Gwen Stefani? Two, it seems. In 2002, Gavin Rossdale proposed to No Doubt’s leading lady with a thick band with diamonds downs the middle. But shortly after their wedding later that year, she started wearing a second ring—a platinum beauty with one big rock in the middle, loosely shaped like a heart. The diamond halo surrounding the center stone is also heart-shaped, as is the split-shank band. Sadly, the pair split in 2015.
A true classic. When Barack Obama proposed to Michelle Robinson in 1991, he did so with a timeless engagement ring: a solitaire, set in yellow gold. The pair married in 1992, and today—two daughters and two presidential terms later—the former First Lady styles her engagement ring with two bands: a yellow-gold band and a diamond eternity ring.

But when Zayn quit One Direction, he decided to split from his longtime love too. Both have moved on since then.
When it comes to celebrity engagement rings, Real Housewives rings are in a class of their own. Just take Kyle Richards’ massive engagement ring from husband Mauricio Umansky. It features an eye-popping cushion-cut diamond in a split-shank, pavé-encrusted halo setting. And it doesn’t stop there: Since their wedding in January 1996, Richards has added three more diamond eternity bands to her left ring finger, which she wears stacked.
When Ryan Sweeting proposed to The Big Bang Theory actress Kaley Cuoco in September 2013 after only three months of dating, he sweetened the deal with one seriously stunning engagement ring: a 2.5-carat sparkler with a square-shaped center stone in a pavé diamond-studded halo setting. The price? About $65,000. Their wedding day took place three months later on New Year’s Eve for which Cuoco donned a bubblegum-hued Vera Wang wedding dress. The couple have yet to set a wedding date.

Camilla Parker Bowles’ engagement ring from Prince Charles—one of only a few celebrity engagement rings featuring a gigantic emerald-cut center stone, flanked by smaller emerald-cut diamonds—is said to be one of the most expensive royal engagement rings in the royal family. On their wedding day in London in April 2015, only a few months after their engagement, they exchanged two yellow-gold Welsh wedding bands, a royal family tradition.
Cameron Diaz is another celebrity with an engagement band. As soon as her husband, Benji Madden, proposed in December 2014, Diaz started rocking a thick, embellished yellow-gold band. The pair married the next month, and one year later, right around the time of their one-year anniversary, Diaz added another, slightly more traditional diamond sparkler to her hand—one with a huge square-shaped stone.
While Jessica Simpson’s first engagement ring—a pear-shaped beauty from Nick Lachey—is a favorite among celebrity engagement rings, it’s her second ring, from now-husband Eric Johnson, that’s unique among celebrity engagement rings. Why? Because the center stone is a round-shaped ruby, flanked by two equally large diamonds. She paired the design with a wedding band by Neil Lane featuring yellow and rose gold, and five carats worth of diamonds—the perfect complement to the champagne-hued wedding dress she wore to her July 2014 nuptials.

Kris and Bruce Jenner (now Caitlyn Jenner) may have split in 2014 after 23 years of marriage, but Kris’ engagement ring? One for the ages. Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom only dated for about a month before tying the knot in September 2009. And the proposal? While their courtship was brief, their marriage lasted about four years, until they split in December 2013.
More celebrity engagement rings with ruby center stones? Yes please! Teyana Taylor received a yellow-gold ring with a big “untreated” ruby center stone surrounded by a diamond-encrusted ring from her love, Iman Shumpert, at the baby shower for their first child in November 2015. As Taylor explained it via a ring selfie on Instagram, “I am his Ruby Woo.” While the pair seemingly married on the sly in 2016, there’s nothing subtle about that ring.
Elizabeth Taylor was married eight times—twice to Richard Burton—and famously adored all of her diamonds. But her most famous? The one Burton gifted her four years into their first marriage, the 33.19-carat Krupp diamond, which she wore on her left ring finger like an engagement ring. (Today, it’s known as the Elizabeth Taylor Diamond.) But believe it or not, that’s not even the biggest diamond the actor gave his love. That would be the pear-shaped diamond now known as the Taylor-Burton diamond, which weighs in at 68 carats. Taylor wore it as a pendant on a necklace.
Filed under best Christmas gifts ever! L.A. Dodgers outfielder Carl Crawford asked Evelyn Lozada to marry him on Christmas Day in 2013 with a 14.5-carat diamond engagement ring, complete with a 10-carat, emerald-cut center stone. Justin Timberlake proposed to Jessica Biel in January 2012 with a six-carat, vintage-inspired, square-cut engagement ring with blackened platinum elements. And according to Biel, she didn’t have a thing to do with the choice. As she told InStyle, “I had no say whatsoever [in the ring]. I don’t micromanage. He is fearless in his choices and has a real eye for design. And I’ll be honest: He has better taste than I do.” That fall, the couple married in a star-studded event in Italy, and the bride wore pink.

When Tim Rosenman popped the question to Whitney Port during a Sydney, Australia, getaway in November 2013, he did so with a ring that included two of her favorites: an oval-cut center stone and a rose-gold setting. The band is extrac-sparkly, thanks to five rows of micro-pavé diamonds—nd the bling doesn’t stop there. When the pair married two years later, Port added not one, not two, but three diamond bands to her engagement ring: two rose-gold eternity bands, which she wears on either side of her engagement ring, and one thicker platinum band, set with a solid round of emerald-cut baguettes.
New Year, new ring! That’s what happened to Jamie Chung in 2014, when she came back from a trip to Turks and Caicos with a new engagement ring. That same year, they welcomed their first child, Rose, but split in March 2017.
Traditional, but certainly not subtle. Ashley Tisdale’s engagement ring, given to her by her husband, Christopher French, in August 2013, features a two-carat cushion-cut diamond set into a pavé-studded double halo setting. When she married French in September 2014, Tisdale paired the stunner with an equally diamond-studded band featuring multiple rows of diamond accent stones.

Just like Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson’s engagement ring from her husband, Brandon Blackstock, given to her in December 2012, features a massive yellow diamond as the center stone. The ring, co-designed by Blackstock and Johnathon Arndt, also features a slew of white diamond accent stones throughout the halo setting. The pair married at Blackberry Farm in Tennessee the following October, when Clarkson’s engagement ring was paired with her diamond wedding band, which is curved to fit around her massive engagement rock.
Leighton Meester’s engagement ring from Adam Brody is a bit of a rarity among celebrity engagement rings, thanks to its bezel setting. Meester’s square-shaped diamond is surrounded by yellow-gold and features an unexpected, unadorned double band. As for her wedding ring—which she added in February 2014, only three months after her engagement went public—the Gossip Girl alum chose a thin diamond eternity band. The couple have since welcomed their first child, daughter Arlo Day.

Equally dreamy. Holmes’ engagement ring from Cruise boasts a five-carat, oval-cut center stone set in a two-toned band embellished with six more carats of smaller diamonds. The estimated worth of the Fred Leighton piece? $275,000. They welcomed their first and only child, Suri, in April 2006, and in November 2006, the couple tied the knot in Italy. Her left ring finger features a three-dot tattoo, which she explained symbolizes being “one with the art.”

They married in June 2013 and now share three children together—two boys and a girl.

Nearly dwarfing her finger, the celebrity engagement ring, which Kroeger gave to her in August 2012 after one month of dating, features a gigantic pear-shaped center stone, flanked by two smaller baguettes. While the ring may be classic glamour girl, Lavigne went in the opposite direction for her July 2013 nuptials, with a black dress and florals. The couple split in 2015.
Jennifer Aniston has been gifted two stunning engagement rings in her life—one from ex-husband Brad Pitt and one from current husband Justin Theroux. While Jessica Alba seems to rotate a few diamond rings on her left hand ring finger, the arguably most dazzling of the bunch is the Asscher-cut, five-carat sparkler with a French-set diamond halo band. Her husband Cash Warren gifted it to the actress in December 2007, over the holiday season. The next May, the couple wed on a Monday in a no-fuss affair, and the couple welcomed their first child, Honor, that June. They also share a second daughter, Haven.
Brooks Laich proposed to Julianne Hough in August 2015. As the Dancing With the Stars judge explained via her personal blog, the hockey player popped the question at their home, where he got down on one knee during a seemingly casual moment and presented her with a six-carat, oval-cut beauty set in a delicate, pavé-studded band. The couple tied the knot in Idaho in July 2017.
After three engagements,Emily Maynard decided she wanted an engagement ring that was a little unexpected. In fact, make that rings. Her husband, Tyler Johnson, proposed to Maynard in early 2014 with a stack of four rings, including one thick band embellished with a series of sizable, cushion-cut stones. That June, the two tied the knot in front of 200 family members and friends.
