How We Met
Brian and I met when he was about to begin his second year of his graduate assistantship in the West Virginia University Athletic Department, and I was about to begin my second year of pharmacy school. We both headed to our favorite bar in downtown Morgantown for happy hour and to watch the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds baseball game when we were introduced through mutual friends. We initially didn’t see eye to eye as Brian was a Pirates fan and I was a Reds fan. However, we quickly put aside our differences and noticed we had many things in common.
We spent the next year getting to know each other and spending time together as much as possible. A year after we were together, Brian moved to Greensboro, North Carolina to do a one-year internship at the Atlantic Coast Conference, while I stayed in West Virginia to complete my third year of pharmacy school. He subsequently moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to begin law school in 2014, and I moved in with him during the summer of 2015 after a long-distance relationship for two years.
how they asked
We decided to take a vacation to Daytona Beach between his second and third year of law school and my first and second year of pharmacy residency. The trip was a blast, and on Tuesday, July 5th, Brian asked me to get all dressed up for a fancy dinner. He also asked if I would like to go look at houses and walk on the beach.
We arrived at the location on the beach, and he pulled out a bottle of wine. We were standing looking into the ocean when he told me that there is no one else he would rather spend his life with, got down on one knee, and pulled out the cutest handmade wooden box with our initials on it.
After struggling to get the box out of his back pocket because he was so nervous, he opened the box that contained the most gorgeous princess cut diamond ring I had ever seen, and asked me to marry him.
I was so excited and shocked! I mumbled something along the line of “of course I will!” and bent down to give him a huge kiss!
That wasn’t the only surprise Brian had planned. Little did I know that he had hired a wonderful photographer to capture the breathtaking moment and give us an engagement photo session after the proposal!
It was the most perfect day with the most perfect person.
