How We Met: Lucas and I met when I was 15 and he was 17. We were at a cookout at my house for my step-dad’s coworkers and their families. He approached me at the drink table began to ask questions like “what’s your name?”, “where do you go to school?”, “do you play any sports?”, etc. I was crushing on him pretty hard and my crush grew through out the rest of the day as we rode four wheelers and got to know each other even more. We dated for a few months and broke up because I wasn’t ready for a relationship. I realized I made a mistake, and the next year in August at the same cookout we reconnected and began dating again that October. We are approaching our 4 year anniversary this year. I always knew I would marry Lucas, but I never thought I would be planning my wedding with him at this time in my life and I could not be anymore excited.
how they asked: A week before the weekend of July 25th Lucas asked me if I wanted to go on a hike that Saturday. I was excited because we hadn’t gotten a chance to go hiking yet because we both had a busy summer. Before we started our hike we made a trip to Fresh Market to get a nice lunch to have at the top of the mountain. We finally got to the base of Read Mountain and started our hike to the top. Of course I thought it was just a normal hike so I was in no rush, meanwhile Lucas was stepping on my heels and practically trying to run up the mountain. With a little motivation he encouraged me to pick up my speed and get to the top. As we approached the top lookout we took a seat on the rock and he pulled out a photo album. The album contained about 80 pictures of Lucas and I throughout the almost four years we have been together. I took my time flipping through and reminiscing on all the amazing times I’ve had with the love of my life. As I approached the last page of pictures there was a note in one of the slots that said “I have one more surprise.”
He stood up and acted like he was going to lead me the other way, but then he just stopped and looked me in the eyes before kneeling down on one knee. I was in shock and pretty much hysterical at the fact that the man of my dreams was proposing to me right at that very moment, a moment I had dreamed of for so long. As he began to speak I immediately burst into tears. I tried my best to contain myself as he said to me “Cassidy Lauren Jones, ever since I laid eyes on you, I had a feeling I was meeting someone special and that God put you in my life for a reason. You are the most beautiful girl I have ever laid eyes upon and it never ceases to amaze me how our love grows stronger each and everyday. I want to grow old together and continue the love story we have only started to create. Life without you is not worth living, and the best days ahead of me will be the ones with you by my side. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, babe. Cassidy Lauren Jones, will you marry me?” It was hard for me to let him get through his proposal without attacking him with a hug. I said yes at least ten times and my heart has never felt as happy as it did in that moment….
