Ryan & I met when we were 17 years old. Although we did not go to the same high school, we are definitely high school sweethearts. It was safe to say that since we have been dating for 7 plus years, I was kind of waiting for Ryan to pop the question. We moved to the D.C. metro area very recently from Pennsylvania after I started graduate school. Since the cherry blossom festival is a must see in D.C., we were having some friends come into town to go visit and view the seasonal flowers. The weather had been very cold in the weeks before the festival and it was unknown whether or not the cherry blossoms would even bloom this year. But luckily it started to warm up a few days before we were planning to go. The blossoms had bloomed! As we walked around the Tidal Basin on a beautiful day in march, views of the Washington Monument and surrounding cherry blossoms created a gorgeous backdrop. My friends were taking a photo of us and then all of a sudden he dropped to one knee and opened the little black box that had the most gorgeous gold diamond ring in it. I didn’t even let him officially ask me. I immediately said yes and happy tears streamed down my face. It was the best day of my life thus far and I can not wait to marry my best friend.
