How We Met
Matt and I met 10 years ago in our high school AP Physics class. On the first day of class, he sat next to me. Every day before and after class he would start talking to me to get to know me. After many group study sessions and group projects, Matt asked me to be his partner for the class bridge building contest. We were already good friends at that point and started to realize how much we liked each other while working on this project. He finally asked me out on our first date, and 3 months after that he officially asked me to be his girlfriend. Since then we have watched each other grow up, from high school to different colleges to moving in together and all the moments in between. We have made a great team from the moment our bridge won us 2nd place, until now.
How They Asked
Matt found out that he had to go to London to work on my birthday week. We had never been to Europe, and he suggested that I join him so we could be together. Little did I know, that this would be the best birthday I could ask for full of many surprises. I was expecting to be in London all week for Matt’s business trip, but the night before my birthday he surprised me with a trip to Paris for the weekend. After a major flight delay, we arrived in Paris just in time for what I thought was a dinner reservation. Matt had told me to pack something nice, so we changed and began walking to dinner. We walked down by the river and I asked if we were eating on a riverboat. He said yes, but soon after we walked by some “random” photographers who asked if we wanted some pictures.
Matt said: “Sure, we are dressed up so we should get a nice photo”. They took a few photos, then asked me to turn away from Matt so he could stand behind me. They told me to turn around and that is when I saw Matt down on one knee with a huge smile on his face. I burst into tears of joy and said YES!
I quickly realized that the entire thing was staged. Matt hired the photographers to set up the scene and pretend be there waiting for passerby’s that wanted photos.
After the proposal a private boat picked us up for a tour of the river. It dropped us off and we walked to a beautiful dinner. The next morning Matt set up an engagement session at the Louvre. He also planned a day filled with a visit to the Louvre and a tour of the Eiffel Tower. It was a whirlwind weekend and he pulled off the perfect proposal.
Matt truly thought of every detail. There was so much preparation that he had to go through. He had weekly “meetings” at 8 am to plan our proposal. He told me the meeting were with the London office to prep for the business trip. He worked with his cousin, an amazing ring designer, to design the ring. He met with both of my parents in two different cities to ask for permission to marry me. He planned with my mom to make sure my nails were done. He even researched how to kneel properly. We always like to use the motto “go big or go home” in our lives and that even extended into his proposal. I am the luckiest girl in the world, and I cannot wait to marry my best friend!
