How We Met
Scott and I met through mutual friends in December of 2015. It was my freshmen year of college at Brigham Young University and Scott had been rooming with my friend Claire’s older brother. We ran into them at the library one day and a few days after meeting, Scott asked me out on our first date. Although the date went really well, we didn’t go on anymore dates after that and remained close friends for quite a while, talking to each other about dates we had gone on, getting to know each other on a deeper level, and really fostering a best friendship (is that a word?). It wasn’t until the summer of 2016, when Scott kissed me out of the blue and erased the line between friends and more than that. Sparks began to fly and both of us realized that this relationship that we shared was unlike anything we had ever experienced. Even though the thought of risking our strong friendship was frightening, we somehow knew that it was worth the risk. We began officially dating in September of 2016 and have been absolutely inseparable ever since.
how they asked
Scott had come in town for a couple days while I was home in California so that he could spend New Year’s Eve with me and my family. He casually mentioned to me a couple days prior that he had made plans to go surfing with his friend Baylor on Thursday morning. Thinking nothing of it, I kissed him goodbye on the morning of December the 28th and went out to breakfast with my family shortly after. My dad walked in late and handed me a single red rose and a handwritten Bachelor-esque date card. The card contained two hundred dollars cash and told me to buy a nice dress and to meet Scott at Crescent Bay Beach at 3pm later that day. I couldn’t breathe. I could not believe that this was actually happening! We had talked about getting married for quite some time beforehand but I had no idea that this was coming. TODAY. My mom, sister, sister-in-law, and I then went to get pedicures and then to the mall to find the perfect outfit. We were seated in a private, luxury stylist suite where a personal stylist had already picked out a large number of both dresses and matching shoes. I spent the next hour trying on dresses and eating lunch that we ordered and had brought to our suite. I was thankfully able to curl my hair and even got my makeup done down at the Bobbi Brown counter. Finally, it was time to meet Scott at the Beach. I felt my stomach starting to turn like a washing machine inside me and I was so darn anxious I thought I was going to jump out of the car window! When we arrived, my family and I walked along the beach for a bit and then everyone stopped and stayed behind as I continued walking. Finally, I could see him standing with a bouquet of my favorite flowers, all dressed up, with the most beautiful picnic arrangement I have ever seen beside him. There were candles, floral arrangements, and white chiffon blowing in the wind behind him. But as I got closer, all I could see was the glow on his face and the most incredible smile I have ever seen. I couldn’t take it any longer, this walk seemed like forever, so I just ran into his arms. He gave me the bouquet of white tulips and took my hands. “I hope you know how much I love and adore you Carly Masters. There is no one else on this earth that I would want to spend the rest of forever with” he said. I began to cry and then he began to cry and then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
I gave him a tearful yes and kissed him before he even had the chance to put the ring on my finger. I am hopelessly in love with Scott Bohne and I have never experienced this level of happiness before. This was the best day of my life so far, and I cannot wait for an eternity of best day evers with him.
