How We Met
It was definitely fate that brought this Nebraska girl and Kansas boy together! Jared and I met almost 5 years ago at a small lake in Iowa called Lake Okoboji. I was from Nebraska, and on a girls trip spending time with girlfriends for the 4th of July! Jared lived in Kansas City, but his family owns a house at this lake, so he was also up there for the 4th of July celebrating with his guy friends. Our first night there, us girls decide we want to grab a drink and watch a local cover band play at a bar called Captain’s. Us girls were at a table in the corner just enjoying the night, when I get a tap on my shoulder. I turn around and Jared was standing there, boldly asking me if I’ll dance with him. I immediately responded “no thanks” as I am super shy! But, with a little push from my friends and Jared, they finally got me up to the bar with him. We ended up chatting the entire night and just knew that this was something special. I am so thankful every day that God brought us into that tiny town in Iowa.
how they asked
Jared and I had just moved to Denver, so all of my family was in town helping us move. My sister decided she really wanted to hike a 14’er (a 14,000 foot mountain), so we made plans to go to the mountains and hike Mount Quandary that weekend. We rented a gorgeous mountain cottage and woke up at the crack of dawn to go for the hike with my sister and brother in law. We ended up getting separated, so Jared and I decided to wait at the top for them to come up after. We made it to the top and it was one of the most incredible breathtaking views I have ever seen, and we felt so accomplished. After waiting for a while, I was freezing and was ready to be at the bottom. I kept asking to go down but Jared was adamant we stayed and waited (makes sense now!) After over two hours, I made the executive decision that we were going down without them! Poor Jared didn’t know what to do, so he asked a random man sitting next to us to take one last photo of us (thank you, random man!). We then walk to the edge of the mountain and line up to take the picture, and I look behind me and Jared is down on one knee with the most beautiful ring I have ever seen! I was at a loss for words and had NO idea what was going on… I was so shocked and happy and confused that I couldn’t even tell you what he said! It was the best moment ever. We then drove back to Denver to our apartment and when I opened the door, there were candles everywhere and rose petals and champagne and chocolate and music… I was like how the heck did you do this?! And then my best friends came running out! Jared had called them before and planned it all with them. It was such a blessing to be able to celebrate with those I love most!
