How We Met
Frank and I met at work in 2016. I was dressed as an awkward Starbucks cup (fitting) at our company Halloween party and a mutual friend introduced us by the coffee machines. Over the course of the next year, we worked side by side on the same team and our professional level friendship developed into something much more. Terrified of the repercussions that could come along with dating a co-worker, Frank asked me out three times before I finally said yes. At the stroke of 6 pm, we’d file out of our little conference room (me first, to not give anyone any suspicions of course) and I’d meet him roughly two full avenues away from the office. He still makes fun of me to this day for my (unnecessary) stealthy post-work dinner date routines, but many avenues and many years later…the rest was history.
How They Asked
Frank proposed on August 8, 2020, on the dock outside of his house. Our families had planned a summer BBQ out east for the day but little did I know everyone was in on a much different plan. To ensure that I didn’t stroll downstairs in a bathing suit cover-up and a messy bun (in typical “BBQ” fashion) Frank suggested that we dress up for family photos on the new camera that his sister’s boyfriend had just gotten.
We made our way to the dock, where we took (what I later found out were) distraction pictures to make certain that the moment would be captured perfectly. After the last distraction shot, his sister’s boyfriend (Nick! MVP) angled the camera to Frank. “Do you like this backdrop, do you want to take another picture?” and that was the queue. Nick got back behind the camera, and we got back in camera-ready position. In that instant, Frank dropped to one knee.
