Chicago had been a planned trip for almost a year. My best friend since middle school was getting married and I was not going to miss her wedding for the world. Jeff told me we should make a trip of it so we decided to stay in Chicago with family a few days after the wedding. The first day we explored downtown Chicago, we did all of the touristy things, the bean, Navy Pier, the Magnificent Mike, Portillo’s, Christkindl Market and of course the Willis (Sears) Tower. The city was magical, as it was all dress up for the holidays. Now mind you, we did all of these things by foot. We wanted the authentic Chicago experience sans Ubers.
Before we went to the Willis Tower, my feet were aching and I kept telling Jeff, let’s go tomorrow. He kept telling me, no let’s go today! It’s been a dream of mine since I was a child to make it to the top. So who was I to crush his childhood dreams? I sucked it up and we walked towards the Tower. Jeff had a huge smile on his face the entire way up and I thought it was because he was finally checking something off his bucket list. When we got to the top, we waited in line to take pictures in the Skydeck. Jeff and I took some and then he told me to take some for my blog. Little did I know what was to happen next. He came back in the Skydeck with me to take more “pictures” and got down on one knee!! I was in shock and of course I cried. I didn’t even let him finish his speech (which I have little to no recollection of because I was in shock) before I screamed yes, grabbed him, and kissed him! It was truly magical! After, the proposal we received applause and congratulations from the other patrons and made our way to celebrate. When we got outside it began to snow, like gorgeous, huge snowflakes! It was stunning! He couldn’t have picked a more perfect or beautiful place to propose!! With all that being said, I can’t wait to marry my best friend!!!
