How We Met
Jake and I went to the same elementary school/ middle school and high school. He was years older so we never really hung out. Fast forward a few years, we are at the University of Tennessee Knoxville and our fraternity and sorority participated in Homecoming week together. This is a big week at UTK. The paired sorority and fraternity spend the whole week (all day/ night) working on a homecoming float to win in the parade. I ran into Jake that week and we just hit it off! We hung out as friends for 2 months then decided we had feelings for one another. Over Christmas break, we met each other’s families and the rest is history!
How They Asked
Jake and I had been talking about getting married for several months. I was in nursing school so we knew we wouldn’t want to get married until after we graduated so I figured the proposal would come close to or after I graduate in May of 2020. A few weeks before Thanksgiving, Jake’s mom texted us saying she wanted some Christmas pictures of us at their house for the Christmas Card and told us we would be taking them November 29, 2019.
Well, I thought nothing of it other than “yeah, Christmas pictures sounds so fun!” That day, on our way to the house, Jake told me his stomach was hurting him. I said, “aw, did you eat something bad?” I guess I’m not very observant haha. We get to the house and a family friend photographer was there for the pictures. We began snapping some, then she gets some of Jake and me on the porch swing. Next thing I know, Jake was down on one knee asking if I would marry him!!
I do not think I’ve ever been so shocked in my life. It was definitely the most emotional and sweetest moment! After we finished pictures, Jake and his family drove us to a restaurant in Nashville to celebrate. My whole family was there to surprise me and two of my best friends! Jake did so amazing and it was hands down one of the best days of my life. I still tear up when I think about how lucky and in love I feel!
