How We Met: Matt and I met right before senior year of high school. We went to separate high schools, but the same church. I had been going to that church for a while, then he showed up one night and I instantly noticed him. We talked a lot and he even showed me some of his dance moves! There was just something about him and we just clicked. Needless to say, I was looking forward to seeing him again. Next week he came to church again, and we stayed after talking for HOURS! I had never shared that much with someone I had known for a week, but with him it was different. It was just so easy to talk to him. We dated all throughout out senior year and then both decided to go to the University of South Alabama.
how they asked: This night was the night we were going on our annual Zoo Light Safari trip, and it was also the night we were to exchange Christmas presents! We went to Zoo Light Safari, and on our way back to my house he suggested going to The Cheesecake Factory (little did I know, he was just trying to kill time). As we were pulling into my neighborhood, he handed me a blindfold and told me to put it on because my Christmas present was outside. As soon as we pulled up to my house, he opened my door from across from me and then disappeared. I was sitting there by myself for a few seconds, then all of a sudden my dad grabbed my arm and helped me out of the car. He walked me through a candle-lit path, and along that path there were pictures of me and Matt hanging in the trees that were all throughout our years of dating. My dad was telling me something special was happening and that he loves me and Matt very much. As soon as we rounded the corner to the back of my house, I saw Matt. He was standing under a beautiful arbor that was wrapped in Christmas lights and ivy. When I came around that corner, our song (Crazy Girl by Eli Young Band) began playing from the speakers. The candle-lit path, which was now covered in white rose petals, continued all the way up to Matt. My dad went inside and I walked up to Matt in complete shock. He said some of the sweetest words(even though I can’t quite remember all of them) and then asked me to marry him. I, of course, said yes right away! It was such a surreal moment. We hugged and cherished this moment for a while, then he asked me if he could have this dance. We danced away to She’s Everything by Brad Paisley.
When the dance was over, we both turned around and our moms came running out of the basement (knocking over candles as they ran)! After sharing a special moment with our moms, he started leading me upstairs so we could see my dad. When we walked in the house, all the lights turned on and my whole family was there along with his whole family! I was so glad that all of our loved ones were there to celebrate this new chapter with us. This was a true fairytale and I couldn’t be more blessed to marry the man of my dreams!
