How We Met
Elliot and I met when we were 16, I was asking another boy to Sadie Hawkins the first time I saw him. I had been pacing outside the guy’s weight room because I was too shy to go in when he happened to come out the door. He was a little shirtless and very confident and went and fetched the guy for me. I didn’t run into him again until I received a Myspace message, yes this was when Myspace was still a thing, a week or two later. I typically didn’t answer messages from boys I didn’t know, but for whatever reason that day I decided I should answer him and there started the most important relationship of my life. From there we eventually went out on our first date on Valentine’s Day. We went to sushi (my favorite) and then he took me to a park by the lake where he asked me to be his girlfriend and then gave me my first kiss. As if that wasn’t enough to blow a 16 year-old girl’s mind he then walked me down to the Amphitheater where he had set up a huge sign which read, “Will you go to Sweethearts with me?” I was in so much shock, he had to point to the sign for me to even notice it. Then he gave me a rose, another kiss and I said yes. This was the first of many romantic gestures that made falling in love with Elliot completely irresistible.
how they asked
Seven years of wonderful moments later, Elliot and I decided to go on a European adventure together before he started medical school that fall. We planned for months and all along Elliot kept asking me which place I was most excited to see. To this I always answered, Paris. I have been fortunate enough to travel quite a bit in my life so far, but Paris has always been a dream of mine, and I couldn’t wait until we could finally be there together. So to start out our 3 weeks in Europe we decided to go to Paris first. On our first day there we decided the Eiffel Tower was the first place we needed to go. So we dropped off our bags at the hotel and took the train to the Eiffel Tower. We had a classic French lunch of ham and butter sandwiches with Champagne beneath the tower.
We then went up to the top of the Eiffel Tower and made our way slowly around the top soaking in every view. We held each other and watched the sunset. Then he wrapped me up in a hug and told me, “I love you so much, and you make me so happy” got down on one knee, and asked me if I would marry him and after saying “No way!” about five times, I said yes. Everyone cheered and a very sweet couple celebrating their wedding anniversary offered to take our picture.
Elliot has never ceased to amaze me with his ability to fill my life with unforgettable moments that I am somehow never prepared for like this one. I am so lucky to get to marry him this July and I just thought I’d take this opportunity to remind him that I cherish every memory we’ve made together and I can’t wait to make a lifetime more of them.
