How We Met
James and I met while I was laying out by the pool with one of my best friends at the Soho House rooftop in Chicago. It was a beautiful warm day in September and we were enjoying one of the remaining Saturday afternoons drinking rosè and laying in the sun. My friend was texting with a guy friend of hers who now lived in LA and he mentioned he knew two of his close guy friends were there at Soho House too hanging out. He sent them her number and a few minutes later James and his friend had found us and we hit it off from there!
How They Asked
Paris has been a special place for us and our family. James has two teenage children that live in France so we spend a significant amount of time there together. We both love the city and was a place we came together as a new family.
In early March I flew back James’ daughter from a visit in the US during her vacation. Since she could not fly back alone, James suggested we could go together and stay in Paris a few days since we loved every excuse to get there. James ended up getting very sick with the flu but insisted we still go. I ended up going a day before he did with his daughter. He finally made it out to Paris and he was feeling much better! We stayed at the incredible Peninsula Hotel. James is always planning extravagant activities and on that particular day he planned a surprise shopping trip throughout Paris. The following day, he mentioned we were going on the boat cruise for dinner that evening. This was a typical activity for us. Although, a touristy event we always loved the experience of cruising down the river and having a great dinner! The hotel arranged a car service for us and when we arrived I noticed it was not the large cruise boat we always go on but instead our own personal boat! Again, I did not think much of it because James has arranged private boat tours before in other cities. We began our cruise and after the appetizer the captain said that we were at a beautiful place on the river and we should go outside on the front of the boat to see the view. I was a bit hesitant because it was cold! Nevertheless, I went out. We were stopped right at the very entrance of a beautiful bridge and as I was standing there in the center long stem red roses were being thrown on the boat. The roses kept coming (more and more) and that’s when I turned around and James was down on one knee and asked me to marry him! There were 2,000 roses total that he ordered to be thrown over us – so it was literally raining roses! I was in absolute shock and of course said YES!
