Caitlyn and Christopher

How We Met:

Chris and I laid eyes on each other in May 2012. He came into the restaurant where I worked with a bunch of his coworkers and I just so happened to be their waitress. I remember I had asked him for his ID and he made a sneaky flirtatious remark – “I would’ve asked for your ID too so I could get your name.” From that point on, I could not get this man out of my mind. He had worked at the bank up the road and after that day in the restaurant, I remember going to the bank, even to deposit $20, just so I could catch a glimpse of him.

One night, I saw him out at a bar and his friend had asked me for my phone number. Right after this happened, Chris came up to me and said “I can’t let you give your number to him and not to me.” The day after, he had texted me and a week later he asked me to come over to hang out and we have been inseperable ever since. I said to my mother the day after we hung out for the first time that I had just met the man I was going to marry. Little did I know, I was right.

how they asked:

The friday before we got engaged, Chris had handed me his cell phone because he was texting my sister and wanted me to read their conversation. While I was reading their conversation, Chris’ jeweler texted him – “meet you at 10am”. I knew, why else would Chris be going to his jeweler? I left it alone and just figured he was going to get ideas and to look. I thought nothing of it. That following Tuesday, I was in the kitchen making dinner and Chris was out in the living room on the couch talking to his friend on the phone. Chris was doing something so his friend was on speaker phone. At the end of the conversation, his friend (unknowing that I was listening), blurted out – “hey man, congratulations on buying an engagement ring!”.

I heard Chris panicking to turn his phone off speaker and he knew I had heard. I walked out of the kitchen upset. I remember saying to Chris – “this is supposed to be a surprise and I feel like I know it’s coming.” That night, Chris was in panic mode and told me he had lent his friend money so he could buy his girlfriend an engagement ring. I went along with it even though I knew it was a cover up. The week went on as normal. That friday, Chris and I had plans to go to his dads for dinner. I told him I would meet him at home, we could change and we would drive over together.

I got home, parked my car in the garage, walked through the door and immediately was welcomed to a big poster board giving me directions. All the way up our staircase were tea lights – over 200 of them.

I thought to myself – “either Chris is really sorry and is apologizing or there is something larger happening here.” I went up the stairs and noticed that every section of the stairs had an envelope.

Every envelope was a “chapter” or year of our relationship that Chris wrote out. They were the most beautiful letters I have ever read. Each letter highlighted the best memories from the last three years – graduating college, moving in together, going on vacations.

I was in shock. I walked all the way up the stairs and noticed rose pedals leading to our kitchen table where there was bouquets of flowers and photos of us everywhere.

On the kitchen table also had the last final note. As I walked up to the kitchen table, Chris started playing music. At this point I was shaking and crying. I picked up the final note and it stated – “I want to start this next chapter with you. I love you. So Caitlyn Rosalie, will you marry me.” As I read this, Chris walked down the hall way, grabbed my hand, got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I couldn’t believe it. “Of course!!” I screamed “of course!!!”.

I had no idea Chris had taken that Thursday and Friday off to plan everything, pick up the ring, get the flowers..etc. He had gotten up with me both mornings as we always do for work. Got changed and we left together as we always do. He came home that Thursday night at the same time he always done, in his work clothes. Little did I know, he was at my moms those 2 days with my sister and mother planning the engagement.

Later on he said he was planning to do it in September but he saw how upset I was and could not wait to ask me. We are currently planning our wedding for May 2017 and are so excited to be Mr. & Mrs.
