How We Met
I had been using dating apps for a few years, and was ready to delete them all once I moved to the city. I matched with Ryan on Bumble the day after I moved in. After chatting, he asked me to meet up for drinks. Unfortunately for him, I was leaving to go out of the country, so he had to wait – he teases me all the time about this! I ended up agreeing to meet him at a rooftop bar down the street once I returned. As soon as I met him, I was smitten. Coming from a law enforcement family, I felt an immediate sense of comfort in learning that Ryan volunteered as a firefighter in his free time. We have been together ever since!
How They Asked
Becoming a DC firefighter has been Ryan’s dream since he was little, so he took the entrance exam back in the fall of 2015. Fast forward to 3 years later, while we were at the beach on Memorial Day weekend, he got the call that he had been accepted into the academy. It was such a joyous moment! After a challenging 6 months, on January 18, he graduated and officially became a DC firefighter. Both of our families came to attend graduation and celebrate. We went to the US Capitol afterward to take pictures, and as a surprise, Ryan had arranged for a police officer to take us on a private tour!
The two of us were the last to take photos on the West Terrace, where Ryan dropped to one knee in front of both of our families. Of course, I said yes! It was a gorgeous setting and backdrop, and I loved that both of our families were there to witness the big moment. I am so very excited to marry my best friend, and am so proud to be a future firefighter wife!
