How We Met
Keenan and I had met working at a summer camp 4 years ago and have been dating for two of those years. At camp, there are two teams, the Alphas and the Omegas that compete against each other in challenges throughout the week. Keenan and I were both on the Omega team (blue), and were selected to be Mr. and Mrs. Omega during the last week of camp. We spent all week together planning out skits and cheers, while also talking and learning more about each other. After we took a hard loss against the Alphas, me, Keenan, and most of the Omega counselors went out to ice cream to sooth our pain, having lost the summer. We ended up only talking to each other that whole time, slowly realizing how similar our sense of humor is, how passionate we are for kids, and how we both love Christ. I knew at that moment that he was something special, and I could not have imagined that he would be my best friend forever!
how they asked
Keenan tells me had planned us a date for Friday, September 1st. He said there was a fundraising event in Austin that his mom was going to, and we should go with. It was a nice event, so I wore a dress (a big step for me ;)) and he looked so cute in his tie and jacket. Before we headed to the “event,” Keenan had pulled over by Towne Lake Trail and suggested that we take a walk before heading there. He said “I just want to see the sunset” and I said “weird, but okay?” We start walking and he leads me straight to a canoe rental place. He says “let’s rent a canoe, it’ll be fun” and I say “you’re so weird, but okay.” Along the way I kept saying things like “we are going to be late to the event!” and “I’m in a dress, this is weird!” but he just kept paddling until we turned a corner.
Keenan gets on one knee in the canoe and says “I know tonight has been weird, and so have the past 4 years. Will you marry me?” I start to laugh, look at the ring and say “oh my god, oh my god, OH MY GOD!” Keenan looks at me with worry in his eyes and says “please say yes before I accidentally drop it in the water!” I yell “YES!” look over to see my good friend Shelby Nickel Photography taking pictures. It was the sweetest, funniest moment of my life and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life laughing with him forever.
