Caitlin and Justin

How We Met

Justin and I met 4 and a half years ago. I had just gotten out of a relationship, and the girls at the salon I worked at decided to make me a Plenty of Fish account. It was fun to talk to new people but I had no intentions of ever meeting anyone on a dating website…..until I started talking to Justin. We had decided to go to dinner at a restaurant in downtown Saratoga Springs, NY. There was never an awkward moment, the conversation just flowed like we had known each other for years. We had gone on 4 dates before Justin asked me to be his girlfriend and the rest is history!

how they asked

My birthday is May 13th, and nobody loves their birthday more than me. I declare “13 days of Caitlin” a National Holiday every year. This year, Justin decided to play along. On May 1st, he gave me a locked chest with a riddle on how to open it. Each day up until May 13th I received another clue. Of course, after dating for 4 years I immediately thought “this is it”…. but just could not figure out how the clues related to it. On May 13th, I received my final clue- and after a frustrating hour of putting them together it read, “Play Track One”. Justin then handed me an Tim McGraw album, and track one was “Nashville Without You”. So immediately, I responded: You’re going to Nashville without me!? Nope. I had been talking about visiting Nashville for months, and he had planned the most amazing trip for us with pre-planned dates for the upcoming weekend. The best surprise ever!!! Since there was no beating that, I no longer even considered getting engaged. Fast forward to the Friday before we left, I come home to a sign on the door which read: “If you’re reading this, you know what time it is! Although you have successfully completed ’13 days of Caitlin’ you now must find your plane ticket. To do so you will complete a scavenger hunt. It’s go time! I would hate to be in “Nashville Without You”!” Long story short, each clue was in the shape of a dog bone and had to do with our dog Winnie, the love of our life. The final clue when when I opened the chest and there was a clock set on 11:11. Justin told me to close my eyes and count to 30 while making a wish. When I opened my eyes, he was down on one knee, asking me to be his wife. To say I was shocked is an understatement. Justin went above and beyond to make this the most memorable and amazing proposal I could have ever asked for!
