Caitlin and Joe
How We Met
Joe and I met on a bar… floating somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean on a Boston to Bermuda cruise on board the Norwegian Dawn! We can’t tell anyone without cracking a smile! I was on a family vacation with my parents and two brothers. Joe was with two of his friends. My family ended up sitting down at a table right next to Joe, Will, and Collin at the Pearly Kings Pub. We all started talking and realized we all lived in neighboring towns, and that we all knew a lot of the same people. Joe and I spent our entire lives living 3 minutes from eachother, and did not cross paths until we were in the middle of the ocean. At the time he was working as a marine engineer so we always laugh saying that it makes so much sense he would meet his future wife on a boat! We knew right away that we were meant to be, and now we are engaged 2 and a half years later! Funny how life works!
how they asked
It was a normal Saturday for us. Joe and I had planned on spending the day Christmas shopping and we had a gift card we wanted to use for lunch! We shopped and had a great lunch, and it happened to be the first snowy day in Boston. Everywhere was covered in a beautiful blanket of fluffy white snow. Boston looked like a winter wonderland. My my best friend, Gemma, had invited us out to dinner with her and her boyfriend. She suggested Italian in the North End. Anyone who knows me knows how much of a foodie I am, so when Gemma suggested the North End I could barely wait! I had looked at the menu multiple times that week and was so excited for some delicious wine and pasta! I even bought a new outfit during our shopping excursion for dinner! (Little did I know!) Along with being a foodie, I am a Christmas fanatic. I love absolutely everything and anything to do with Christmas.
So when Joe and I got home from shopping we sat in the living room looking at the Christmas tree, listened to some Christmas music, and had the Yule log app open on our tv! It was so cozy. I kept saying it was going to be so hard to get up and get ready! Eventually I made my way up to get ready for our big night in the North End! Joe told me to give him a 5 minute warning of when I would be ready so he could start the truck. When I walked out of the bathroom with my hair curled, heels on, lipstick and makeup done Joe was sitting on the couch with a big smile on his face. Our living room looked like the coziest room I had ever seen. Christmas music played and candles were lit. He asked me if I had seen the new ornament he got for our Christmas tree. I got so excited because like I said I love Christmas so I eagerly searched with my eyes to see what he had bought! My heart almost stopped when I saw my dream engagement ring tied to a ribbon hanging on a branch. I turned around and the man of my dreams was down on one knee… “Caitlin Rose I love you more than you know…” and the rest is history.
When I finally was able to wrap my head around what just happened I asked if we were still going to the North End with Gemma, and Joe said no we have other plans. We raced right up to my parents’ house where we were met with all of our family and friends. I think I am still in shock! We celebrated, laughed, cried, toasted, and drank champagne. It was the most perfect night I have ever been a part of. It was a magical Christmas proposal, and I am the luckiest girl in the world.
