How We Met
Gus and I met on the first day of our 8th grade year in school. It was my first day in a new school with kids who had been together since they were 4 years old. I still have a vivid memory of Gus coming up to me at lunch and introducing himself with a huge, kind smile. We went all through high school together and then went our separate ways for college. We were always friendly, but never anything more. It wasn’t until after we both graduated college that our paths began crossing again. We would bump into each other all of the time, I would be out with my friends and he with his. Eventually we said we should all just go out together since we always windup in the same places anyway! From there, one thing led to another and on September 10, 2013 we began our amazing journey together, one that would change both of our lives forever!
how they asked
On our third Christmas together, we were exchanging gifts and Gus’s gift to me was a trip to Europe for the upcoming summer. I was beyond thrilled, because part of the itinerary was Paris! I had always dreamed of going there since I was little girl and I was beyond excited! Actually when I first realized that was part of the trip, my first though was “He’s going to propose there!” But I quickly talked myself out of that, mostly because I didn’t want to put those types of expectations on the trip in case it didn’t happen. I didn’t want our beautiful trip to be ruined because my expectations were not met.
On our third, and last, day in Paris we had decided that we were going to wake up early (we are talking be there at 6:00am early), get dressed up, go take pictures by the Eiffel Tower and have breakfast at a nice cafe. I think for most people this probably would have raised a red flag but we had been in London prior and did something very similar so I didn’t think much of it at all. So we woke up early, got dressed up and made our way to Trocadero, the most breath taking viewing area for the Eiffel Tower.
We got there and took a few pictures and then we stood at the center of the viewing platform just taking it all in, in each others arms. Then he looked at me, kissed me and said, “I told you I’d show you the world…,” and then got down on his knee.
I was in complete shock, to the point where the first word out of my mouth was “No!” I could not believe that this was really happening. The day that I had dreamed of my entire life was happening and it was better than anything I could have ever dreamed!
At this point he was looking up at me and asking me to marry him while holding a Tiffany Blue box! Of course my answer was yes! He took the gorgeous ring out of the box, put it on my finger and then got up to celebrate with me.
As if that moment itself wasn’t enough, Gus then told me that he had a photographer there who had captured the moment, (thank you Fran, The Paris Photographer) and that he was going to be with us for the rest of the morning to do an engagement photoshoot. We took photos at Trocadero, and finally made it to the cafe where we had macaroons and hot chocolate for breakfast while taking more pictures. At this point the photographer, Fran, asked at what point we were going to change for the rest of the shoot. And I had a panic come over me thinking, “I didn’t pack for this!’ But Gus looked at me, smiled, and said “Don’t worry, I got you something.”
So we made our way back to the hotel, in an S-Class Mercedes, with a driver he had hired for the day to take us around Paris. When we got back to the room Gus pulled out a gorgeous, custom-made dress and two jaw-dropping pairs of Louboutins to go with it. We spent the rest of the day being driven around Paris, with a world renowned photographer taking photos at the Bridge of Alexander III, Notre Dame, and other iconic Parisian landmarks.
We concluded our session at the Tiffany & Co. flagship store on the Champs-Elysées for a champagne toast and ,yes, more macaroons!
With the sun setting in the most perfect Persian evening, we had the most romantic dinner on top of the Eiffel tower. Gus then had a lovely carriage pick us up after dinner at the Eiffel Tower to take us back to our hotel. During the ride, I just looked back on what had happened to me throughout the day and tried to let it all sink in. Never in a million years could I have imagined any of this ever happening to me. But here I was, in the City of Love, with the man of my dreams, living something better than my dreams, because he and this proposal was for real! Every girl dreams of living the life of a fairytale princess, but what happened to me on July 25th, 2016 truly felt better than a Cinderella story. All I know is that if this is how we are beginning our forever, I cannot wait to see what life has in store for us!
