How We Met
Chris and I met during the summer of 2008. We were both working at a local water park as lifeguards. Over that summer we began to become friends. Over that year we became much closer and eventually became each others best friends. Fast forward to Summer 2010, I had just graduated from High School in Pennsylvania, getting ready for my freshman year of college and Chris was going to be a sophomore in college at the University of Vermont. We were closer than ever. That year went by and we kept in touch with one another through the ups and downs of one another’s lives. Chris was my rock through a lot of tough times that year.
Then Summer 2011 hit and something was growing between us. We went out on a date and the rest was history, we started dating in July of that summer. The first three years of our relationship was long distance, he was in Vermont and I was in Pennsylvania. This was a real test to our relationship. The first time I drove up to Vermont to visit Chris we went on a date to Stowe Mountain Resort in Stowe, Vermont. We took the gondola up to the top (which I was very nervous about) and we got to experience the beautiful views. After the three years of long distance, Chris and I moved in together and call Syracuse, New York home. We both lead very busy lives, Chris is a Ph.D candidate at SU and I am a School Counselor.
Fast forward to 2017. I had a feeling something special was coming but didn’t know when. Chris is very much a perfectionist and extremely detail oriented. Little did I know that he started to plan something two months ago. We took a weekend trip up to Burlington, Vermont on February 22nd. That Thursday and Friday we hung out in Burlington, visited some awesome breweries, and enjoyed each others company.
how they asked
On Saturday, February 25th Chris told me that we were on a strict time schedule. We got up and were out of the hotel door by 9:00 am. We got in his jeep and drove North. I had a funny feeling about what we were doing. About an hour later we got up to Stowe Mountain Resort and met a woman who worked there who had day passes for us to ride the Gondola. The mountain was somewhat foggy so it was hard to see up or down once we were halfway to the top. We got up to the top of the mountain and Chris walked me down a set of steps. I thought to myself “this is where it is going to happen”. He said “Do you remember this spot?
This is where we had our first long distance date.” Then he said “lets turn around and go inside.” We proceeded to walk into the restaurant located at the top of the mountain. At this point I was somewhat confused. We opened the doors to the restaurant and there were all of my best friends (who drove 7 hours, some of them that morning) standing right before us, I instantly lost it.
Chris got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. While this was taking place the photographer that Chris thought to hire was snapping pictures the whole entire time. After I said yes we all took pictures out on the deck of the restaurant. It was the most amazing feeling to be surrounded by such amazing people. Chris also came up with a plan to visit some of our favorite spots on the way back to Burlington.
So all of our friends joined with us in experiencing some breweries, a famous ice cream shop, and a cider doughnut store. To top that all of Chris planned a three course dinner at one of our favorite gourmet pizza places in Burlington that night. It was the greatest night of our lives and I wish I could relive it over and over again.
