How We Met
Dallin and I met through mutual friends in college in the fall of 2014. He was the guy that everybody wanted to be around and be friends with. Me included! When we first met, we instantly became friends. As our friendship grew, so did our feelings for each other. I remember how giddy I felt when he first asked me on a date. He was unlike any guy I had dated before. He has a heart of gold and he is kind to everyone he meets. Little did I know that this was the man I was going to marry.
how they asked
Dallin and I knew early on in our relationship that we would eventually get married but there never felt a need for it to be rushed. I knew that we would likely get engaged in 2018, but the more the year went on the less I was expecting it to come.
A week before the engagement was to take place, I was texting one of my good friends Lynnie. She was telling me that she has been wanting to go to this adventure zip-line course up in the mountains of Utah. She asked if I would go with her since it was closing for the season. Knowing Lynnie, I didn’t think twice of her asking me to go do this. After debating back and forth, and texting Dallin to ask if it was a good idea, I agreed. A few days before we were supposed to do the zip-line, Lynnie texted me to let me know she upgraded to the photo package and to dress appropriately for the pictures. Again, this wasn’t unlike Lynnie, so I agreed once again. How I didn’t get suspicious of this is beyond me.
The morning of the zip-line adventure, Lynnie and I took the long drive through the canyon. For the majority of the ride up we chatted about our futures. I can’t believe Lynnie didn’t give anything away as I talked about how Dallin was never going to propose at this point!
As soon as we got to the zip-line place we suited up in full protection and took a 4-wheeler up to the top of the mountain, which had the most beautiful view. I insisted that Lynnie go first as my nerves began to increase. After she went down I got hooked up and they let me go. It was freezing cold out but was one of the coolest things I had ever seen!
As soon as I got to the end of the zip-line, I saw Dallin standing at the end of a path of rose petals that was just at the bottom of the zip-line’s steps. The tears started immediately. Lynnie helped me down so I could take the helmet and harness off and go to him.
As soon as I got to Dallin, we were both in tears. I had waited so long for this moment and could not believe it was finally happening (and I hadn’t figured it out ahead of time!). He then began to tell me how much he loved me and how excited he was for our future. I seriously could not stop crying! And then FINALLY, after 4 long, wonderful 4 years, he got down on one knee with the most beautiful ring I had ever seen! I, of course, said YES!
It was so perfect and absolutely everything I wanted in a proposal. He knows me so well. It makes my heart so incredibly full when I think about it. I am still in disbelief at the effort Dal put into it, and I feel so lucky that I get to marry this incredible man.
