How We Met

how they asked

This time last year, I never would’ve thought right now I would be engaged to the man of my dreams. Blake and I met in December last year through mutual friends. At the time, Blake was living in Northern California, and I was down south. When Blake reached out to me shortly after meeting, in January, I honestly didn’t know what to think. Part of me was a little hesitant because of the distance. Next thing I know, it’s February and I’m driving to Northern California to go to a Chris Brown concert with this guy. (I don’t normally do things like that, oh, and I don’t listen to Chris Brown). After our first date, things all fell into place weirdly perfectly. Blake got a job offer in Orange County and ended up moving just 15 minutes from my house. I can pin point the exact moment when I knew I was going to fall in love with him. We were driving through the Grape Vine while moving him down here, listening to a Josh Turner song and Blake was singing along. It was such a simple moment and I thought to myself.. Shoot.. I actually really like this guy. Blake and I fell in love fast. It was so genuine and natural. I knew early on that he was “the one.” When I woke up on October 11th, I never would’ve guess it was the day that I would be proposed to. I woke up early to do a charity walk for my work, and then took a nap after. While I was doing this, Blake and his friends were planning the proposal at the beach. Blake picked me up at 4:00 for dinner at the Beachcomber restaurant in Newport Coast. We had an amazing dinner, and I was oblivious the whole time that he was slightly nervous. After dinner, the sun was setting and we walked on the beach for a little bit before coming across a blanket with a basket and a bouquet and garter on it. (Funny story, he caught the garter and I caught the bouquet at my brother’s wedding a week prior!) At this point, my mind was spinning, and I wasn’t 100% sure that this was even his blanket. He opened the basket and pulled out a jacket. It is a special jacket in my family, called the “proposal jacket.” All of the men in my family have gotten engaged wearing this jacket. Blake put the jacket on and got down on one knee. The rest is a blur. He gave a really sweet speech that I can’t seem to remember. But I do know that this was by far the happiest moment of my life, and I am so excited to spend forever with this sweet, loving, caring, and Godly man.
