How We Met
We were born 27 hours Apart and Five houses away; some may call it fate. Scott was my first crush back in kindergarten, however I moved to another neighborhood in the second grade and was at a new school. Despite attending the same high school years later, we had still never even spoke. I was the quiet girl and he was the out going class clown. Luckily a few years into college during summer break, we reconnected at a mutual friends party where I asked him for his number after he walked me home that night. Ever since, It’s been my fairy tale. We spent the rest of our nursing school days in a long distance relationship.
Almost every weekend he would drive six hours up to Rhode Island where I was in school. Finally a long 5 years later, once graduated, I was able to move home to him. A year later we both settled into secure nursing jobs and knew it was time for a vacation. After some convincing he agreed to go to my favorite place – which also happens to be the happiest place on earth; Disney World. Conveniently, My little sister attends school at The University of Central Florida and spends all her free time in Disney, so it was a perfect time to be able to visit her.
how they asked
Fast forward a few months later and the week finally had come! For work reasons I had to leave a day later than Scott and our friends. This ended up working out for Scott because he was able to have my sister keep the ring safe without my knowledge. I flew down a day later with my best friend from college completely unaware of what was about to happen in the upcoming week. Even though I had no idea what was going on, the morning of the surprise engagement I did not sleep. I was to excited to start our day with all of my best friends in Disney World and see my little sister after a long 2.5 months. Scott was being his loving self to me the whole morning and I thought nothing of it. Everything seemed normal – except for the fact he was willingly taking a bunch of pictures with me, which he hates.
We had finally arrived at the magic kingdom where we at last met my sister and her roommate. We all skipped down Main Street USA to the castle to take the typical castle pictures, enjoying the beautiful, cloudless day in Florida. When it was time for Scott and I to take a picture of just the two of us, he looks at me and says, “Wait, I have a great picture idea!”
He slowly reaches into his pocket and pulls out the perfect ring. I immediately back away in shock, staring down at this sparkling ring wondering if this was really happening.
Scott has a tendency to fake propose to me all the time. We have been together for five years so there has been a lot of fake proposals and jokes over the years. I couldn’t help but wonder if this was fake, but he stood there staring into my eyes, spilling his heart out and I knew – it was real! It was like the rest of the world had stopped and it was just me and Scott.
In this moment nothing else mattered and I truly felt like a princess. I was overcome with so much emotion – my heart was pounding and my eyes were tearing for the moment I had dreamed about my whole life was here. It was just like in the fairy tales I grew up watching. I could faintly here my sister shout at him to get on his knee and a crowd of people all around us cheering. As I stood there in front of Cinderella’s castle with the love of my life on one knee before me, I couldn’t believe that this was my reality. It was the most perfect moment that I could have ever dreamed of.
Who wouldn’t love to get engaged in front of Cinderella’s castle? I couldn’t help but feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
My first crush. My best friend. My fiancé.
