Bryn and Brandyn's Engagement in Waxhaw, NC

How We Met

Brandyn and I met at a Passover Seder my sister was hosting at her house. I thought it was just a family gathering, and Brandyn thought he was the only one invited. My sis wasn’t trying to set us up, but I wish she had told me this drop-dead handsome guy was going to be there when I showed up in jeans with a hole in the crotch and hadn’t even brushed my hair! I was smitten immediately but became more cautious when I found out he was four years younger than me. He changed my mind that night with his grace and tact and confident presence. It was the closest to love at first sight I’d ever been.

how they asked

Brandyn proposed at a piece of land where we were planning on building a log cabin for our home. It was a gorgeous fall day, and we had planned a picnic with my sister and her husband (who, incidentally, I had introduced her to!). My sister drove me out there to meet the gents and gave me a letter when we arrived. In the letter, Brandyn told me that I had captivated his heart and that he knew this moment would come from the day he first met me, that he was ready to show me just how much I meant to him and that he was waiting at the end of the path he had prepared for me.

As I began to make my way down the path, I saw stations of hay bales set up with orange roses and tulips (my favorite!) and a Bible at each one. Our faith is very important to us, and Brandyn had chosen 7 passages of Scripture “describing my love for you and my promise to always nurture, protect, provide for, care for, and unconditionally love you.” I made my way down the path– moving more quickly when Brandyn came into sight– into his waiting arms, where he told me he loved me for the first time. He knelt and asked me to marry him, and I said, “Of course I will!” (We joke now that I never actually said yes.) He gave me the ring of my dreams, which he had designed himself and had made with gold from both his and my grandparents’ jewelry.

Our family members began to pour out of the woods and we all went back to Brandyn’s house for an engagement party for which Brandyn had sent everyone invitations and we carved pumpkins as we celebrated the etching of our love on each other’s life.ho
