How We Met
Mark and I met when we were 15 years old in Spanish class. I vividly remember seeing Mark for the first time and hearing him say “Me llamo Mark” as we each introduced ourselves to the class. I remember wanting to get to know him more because he always had such a big smile on his face. A few periods passed, and this same beam of light also happened to be in my study hall. As the year went on we began to talk more and more in these classes and developed a strong friendship.
Fast forward to 16 years old. We were now able to drive, so our time spent together went beyond walking in the halls together and seeing each other at football games. We started to hang out at each other’s house and get to know each other’s families. Little did we know that playing cards and Mario Kart with his little sisters would be the beginning of the rest of our lives together. We are now seniors in college, and I cannot even picture what my life was like before him.
How They Asked
It all started when I woke up in the morning. I hear my door creak open and see a beautiful bouquet of roses, my favorite drink at Starbucks, and a letter. I rubbed my eyes because I thought I was dreaming! I checked my watch to see if I had forgotten our anniversary. No that wasn’t for another month. He said he just wanted to surprise me because he didn’t feel like he did stuff like that enough (not true). So I wake up to get ready for a girls’ day that my mom had planned for my sister and I. We got went shopping, got lunch, and got our nails done.
I guess I should’ve been suspicious then, but I wasn’t! You see Mark had been studying hard for a big test that he takes at the end of June, not to mention that he got surgery 2 days after he proposed!!! So an engagement was definitely NOT on my radar for at least another month. Anyways, after girls’ day, I had to work for a few hours. I get home from work and go upstairs to pack a bag since the plan was to go over to our friend’s house for the night. As I am up there my sister starts chatting my ear off, which I now know was just a distraction.
I was up there for a little while until I hear something outside my door. There was another bouquet of flowers along with a picture that Mark drew of us, and Mark was standing there in a suit. I immediately start crying. He takes my hand and leads me down the stairs where there were 3 bouquets of roses worth of rose petals creating a path for me to follow.
All the tables and chairs in the kitchen were moved and there was a long dress hanging from the light fixture. At the point, Mark branched off and went to my backyard. Below the dress, there was a note saying “you might wanna put this on.” My mom and sister help me with the dress and I start to cry even more!
When I finally put on the dress, I took a deep breath and opened the door to the backyard. Our favorite song was playing in the background and there were even more rose petals in the shape of a heart and 5 more bouquets of flowers. The rest is in the video… I don’t remember everything he said, but I know I said YES!! :) Following the engagement, both of our families came up from my basement where they were hiding to congratulate us. It was the sweetest thing.🥺♥️
