How We Met: Preston and I met working at a summer camp together in Birmingham. Preston was an audio engineer, and I was an actor, and we got along very well, despite my awkwardness. We weren’t allowed to date co-workers, but that didn’t stop Preston from confessing his “like” for me two weeks into the job. We spent the rest of the summer trying to avoid each other, and epically failing. He flew me to Nashville for Labor Day, and we’ve been together ever since.
how they asked: We were in New York City to visit areas we were thinking about moving to one day. Preston had a surprise date planned for that night, but we wanted to spend the afternoon in Brooklyn. He let me think that it was completely my idea to do this. When we got there, he suggested we take a walk down near the bridge to a park he had heard about. I thought maybe we would end up on a ferry ride or something. As we looked out over the skyline, he turned me toward him and said, “So I know you might be mad at me, but…” He pulled out the ring box, and got down on one knee. I was so caught off guard that I just started yelling things like, “YOU’RE JOKING!” and “WHAT?!” I don’t remember what he said, but I remember eventually yelling “Yes!” and hugging about a million times. I didn’t even notice Toni taking pictures until Preston introduced us. We spent the sunset (they planned it so well!) taking picture in places that he and Toni had picked out. When we finally made it to dinner, my whole family was waiting for us inside. I had no idea!
