How We Met
Nate and I met in 2015 when I moved to Bloomington, Indiana to start school at Indiana University. He had just moved back home from California, so we were both new to town and looking to make some new friends.
I met Nate on Tinder and swiped right at first as a total joke (this guy had shirtless pics of him on a beach in California with a sun emoji. Lol). I was hoping he’d have a winning cheesy pickup line, but instead, he asked me for my number, and for some reason, I gave it to him. He immediately FaceTime called me and I again surprised myself and answered the phone. We talked and laughed for hours like we’d known each other for years. We just clicked.
The next week, we went on our first date; he took me to a nice restaurant in town (Truffles, which we still frequent) and it was perfect. I called my best friend that night in utter disbelief that a first date could feel so easy, so natural. We spent a lot of time together over the following weeks and he continued to surprise me. He made me laugh, showed me all of the best ice cream places in town and when I brought him home for the first time he immediately fit in with my family. By New Years I knew that I was absolutely and irrevocably in love with him.
A lot has happened since then: we’ve traveled all over the world, we adopted an adorable pup, I graduated from IU, and we’ve made lots of friends and memories along the way. Every day is a new adventure, and I’m glad I’ve found someone so amazing to do life with. ❤️
How They Asked
New York is my favorite place in the world. My mom and I have gone to visit every year since I was little for our “girl trip” and one of our favorite things to do is go swoon over all of the beautiful sparkling jewelry at the Tiffany’s on 5th Avenue. This past year’s trip was extra special; we were going to visit the new Blue Box Cafe at Tiffany’s with one of my best friends who had just moved to NYC! We decided to get dressed up so we could take cute pictures while we were there. I was posing for a picture on the beautiful staircase that leads up to the cafe when everyone in the store got quiet… I turned around and Nate was standing on the platform looking super nervous with a little blue box in his hand.
As he got down on one knee, my heart did a flip.
When I said yes, the entire building exploded with cheers and tears and my family and friends who had been hiding up at the top of the stairs came rushing down to celebrate with us. The Tiffany’s staff that had helped Nate orchestrate the whole thing brought us celebratory champagne and a little blue tray of my favorite macarons that he had picked up earlier that day. I said yes to forever with my favorite person in my favorite place surrounded by the people I love most in this world.❤️
