How We Met
Mitch and I were set up on a blind date in November of 2015. At the time he was the right tackle for the Cleveland Browns. I was at a Brown’s game with one of my girlfriends (which was rare for me because I don’t like football) and noticed these two guys sitting in the seats next to me. I thought they looked nice but I didn’t end up speaking to them till the 4th quarter of the game. It turned out that the guy next to me’s name was Andy and him and his buddy were in town visiting a friend for the weekend. After we got to talking, Andy asked if I was single and if he could pass along my number to his friend. I was a bit hesitant to give a complete stranger my phone number but went for it anyway. I later learned that the friend they were visiting was actually playing in the football game we were watching all afternoon.
After leaving, all I could remember was that the guy who would be receiving my phone number had a last name that ended with a “Z”. As soon as I got home explained everything to my mom who then went through the entire Cleveland Browns roster to find the name of “Mitchell Schwartz”.
The very next day Mitch texted me and asked if he could take me out on a date. He picked me up from school (John Carroll University) and we had dinner at a local pub. He was so funny and made me feel so comfortable. We just clicked. I knew nothing about football and even admitted that I had no interest in the sport. He laughed and thought it was cute. After that, we went out every night that week!
how they asked
The day we got engaged was the perfect day. We went to lunch at my favorite spot in Malibu then walked around the beach all afternoon. After lunch he drove up to the top of these cliffs overlooking the ocean. We were walking around looking at the ocean for a while. I turned to head back to the car when he said my name. When I turned around he was down on one knee and asked me to marry him. The sun was setting and it was so romantic. His dad was already parked down the street to take picture of us. Afterwards, we went straight to a romantic dinner on the beach in Malibu. He had packed a dress and heels for me that was in his trunk all afternoon.
