How We Met
I met Rafy in October of 2011 at church. We both were volunteering at Saturday night services and our paths began to cross. We became friends over Facebook, and our first conversation never stopped. We started hanging out with friends and spending time together, getting to know each other. It didn’t take us long to figure out how well we worked together. We both loved God, loved our families, and were always willing to do whatever we had to for the other person.
After about 4 months of friendship we started dating. We dated for about 4 years before we got engaged. In this time God had confirmed for both of us time and time again that this was who we were to spend our lives with. Rafy is a man that I have prayed for my whole life. He accepts me as I am, strengthens me when I’m weak, and always pushes me to be better.
how they asked
On December 26, 2015 my life changed forever. We are very involved in our church so when my friend told me she needed to shoot some video clips of Rafy and I for a promo video on relationships, I didn’t question her. We had already shot one video about a month before but she said she needed to reshoot some shots. So we met her in rainy weather at the bottom of a trail. The weather was pretty horrible that day and she kept us in the car waiting for the rain to stop. She later said that we should go somewhere else. As we followed her we ended up at Moanalua Gardens. We started walking into the gardens and she started recording us. I asked her what she wanted us to do and she said “just be yourself”. We continued to talk in the direction Rafy guided us and then I saw a giant blow up screen (which I didn’t even know these amazing things exist!). In front of the screen was a chair. Rafy walked me over to the chair and sat me down and walked away. I immediately started crying as I realized what was happening. A video came up on the screen and it was a music video of a song Rafy wrote for me and has been working on for the last YEAR! In the video there were shots of me and Rafy from our previous “church” shoot with my friend.
At the end of the best song I’ve ever heard, he came out and said the most beautiful words to me and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
Shortly after both of our families came to celebrate with us. It was a moment I will never forget. And now we have a song and video to remember this moment by forever.
