Brittney and Thomas
How We Met
It all started in 2007 when Thomas and I met through my cousin Michael (who lived next door to me at the time). They were best friends and naturally, Thomas and I became best friends. We started “dating” in 2008. I was only thirteen and Thomas was fifteen. He was my first boyfriend and I was his first girlfriend.
The first person to hold my hand, the first person to take me out on a date, and the first person to ever kiss me. Unfortunately, we only dated for 5 months. In between that time, we dated other people and lived life together, but not as a couple. However, one cold night during the month of March in 2011, I went to his house to visit his family. Thomas and I were playing with his brother and sister. As I watched Thomas make his brother and sister laugh, I knew that if Thomas decided to have children one day, he would be the best father. I saw him care so much for his family and me. When Thomas drove me home that night, I looked into his eyes and I knew in that moment that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with my best friend. I quickly fell in love and we started dating again on March 13, 2011. We have been together since then and our friendship has only grown.
p.s. Thomas makes me laugh that much harder every single day.
how they asked
Prior to going on the cruise to the Bahamas with my family, Thomas explained to me that we were going to have pictures taken together on the island of Half Moon Cay. This was not unusual because we would always take pictures together if we went somewhere new. Many people asked me, “when did you know that Thomas was going to propose to you?” The moment Thomas wanted to take a picture with us facing one another, holding hands, that is when I knew. I looked him in the eyes and felt the same butterflies I felt the night we first fell in love. Only this time, the love was different. We have been through many challenges, good and bad, but we got to experience it all together and together is my favorite place to be. As we were looking into each others eyes, It honestly looked as if he was going to throw up on me. He did not even have to get down all the way on one knee before I started crying. It was perfect. He was perfect. Thomas quoted my favorite moment, from my favorite book, “You have bewitched me body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you. And wish from this day forth never to be parted from you.” –Jane Austen
