Brittney and Dalton

how we met

My Sister, Emily, and Brittney competed in pageants together growing up. As Emily got older, my Mom started seeking a coach for Emily to grow her interview skills, poise onstage, etc. My Mom knew Brittney from watching her compete over the years and she didn’t live far from us. So she reached out and soon after Brittney came over for her first lesson with Emily. That is where we first met. Not long after this day, my Mom was trying to set us up and we had our first outing together alongside our families at Six Flags. It’s pretty funny looking back at it!

how they asked

I was planning for a couple of months! We are both originally from St. Louis, but live in Florida now. I went back to St. Louis in April to visit family and also sat down with her family to ask for their blessing. Brittney didn’t know this, though. After the green light was given, I began searching for ideas! After a dozen scratched ideas, countless trips to the craft store for the perfect decor, and rehearsals in the backyard to ensure it was perfect, it was time! I booked a random trip to the Don Cesar for a relaxing night. I also booked reservations at Spinner’s Rooftop Bistro as an early anniversary dinner (we would we celebrating our 7 years the following week). In fact, we booked a cruise for that week and I had a feeling she thought I would propose then. So I thought I would throw her off a bit. After dinner, I asked Brittney if she wanted to catch the sunset at one of our favorite spots. As we walked up over the sea grass I had a candlelit pathway adorned with starfish, rose petals, and photos of us over the last 7 years. That led to a candlelit heart where our dogs were patiently sitting wearing signs that read, “Will You…” and, “Marry Our Daddy?”. I walked her down the path and once in the heart, picked up a gold plated sea shell that I had placed the ring inside. The boys even had custom bow ties made for the occasion. She said yes! As she turned back around, standing there was her Mom, Dad, brother, my family, and a photographer. We took our engagement photos right there on Treasure Island – St. Pete Beach! Everything was perfect, and she was definitely surprised!
