Brittney and Austin
how we met
We went to high school together. It was our junior/senior year when he asked me to go with him to his football banquet, which I did. He was more interested in me in high school than I was him. At the time I thought he was a cocky football star and we all know what the media has made us think of a quarterback, some guy who knows they are good looking and can have whatever they want and who really wants to date that guy? Needless to say our love story didn’t catch fire then Because I didn’t give him a chance to show me the real “football star” that he was.
Our love story began many years later in late 2014. I was currently working at Bronzed Tanning salon. Austin worked out next door at Anytime Fitness and also came in to tan at Bronzed. I saw him walking towards our office and like any girl who sees an attractive man I quickly began checking my hair and makeup. After a few visits from him he somehow played up a story with one of my best friends and co-workers at the time, Lauren Clark, to get our numbers. (He already had Lauren’s because she is like his second family. He just wanted my number.) I honestly did not want anything to do with men at that point in my life, but Austin was different. I ditched him many many times but he was persistent and i finally decided to go on a date with him.
On our first date we went to Fuego Cantina in downtown Birmingham. We had a great time, cheap tacos and expensive margaritas. After that night I had this feeling that made me want to keep him around. I didn’t like the thought of not talking and being with him, even if we weren’t doing anything. It didn’t take long for me to realize that Austin was the one that God intended me to be with. We have been through a lot together but we’ve always worked through it and prayed about the situations. He has made me the happiest I’ve ever been. I am beyond excited to see what God has in store for our future.
how they asked
It was March 27, 2016 – Easter Sunday. Austin and I had been joking earlier in the week about how we should hunt Easter eggs and how much we missed hunting Easter eggs when we were little kids. On Easter Sunday we went to church and to my grandmothers house. We were almost back to my house when Austin asked if I wanted to hunt Easter eggs and I said “Are you for real? Just me and you?” He said “Yeah, why not?” About that time he pulled a bag of Easter eggs from the back of his jeep. When we got home I ran inside to grab my mom to come and take pictures of us being little kids again. (She knew what was going on the entire time.)
I hid his eggs first and he hunted them. Then it was my turn to hunt the eggs he had hidden. I knew I had to find 10 eggs, but I could only find 9. At this point I was getting frustrated because I could not find the last egg. So I told Austin to tell me if I was “hot” or “cold”. I proceed to keep looking for the last egg as he tells me if I am “hot” or “cold”. I’m getting “warmer” I am walk up the front porch stairs. About half way up Austin says “You’re cold, You’re cold”. I was really confused at this point as I stood in the middle of the stairs…
I turned around and there was Austin down on one knee holding a golden egg with an engagement ring inside! He asked “Will you marry me?” Obviously I said “Yes!!!” (And I cried like a baby!)
