How We Met

Aaron and I met our sophomore year of college at Oral Roberts University. He was a finance major and I was in marketing so we ended up in the same accounting class. One week we had taken an accounting test and everyone in the class was complaining about how hard the test was. We ended up finding out that one person in the class had gotten over 100% on the test and came to find out that Aaron was the one who had aced it. I was really struggling with accounting and thought it would be a good idea to reach out to him to see if he would be willing to tutor me.

That night I reached out to him on Facebook and introduced myself and asked him if he would be willing to help me with accounting. He said yes and soon after started helping me with homework and studying for tests. My intentions in having him help me were strictly so I didn’t flunk accounting but we started to find ourselves talking about other things and getting to know each other. One night he reached out to me and asked if I wanted to go to the movies after we studied for an upcoming test. That was the first date of many for the next six and half years.

how they asked

Aaron had recently found out that he was going to be moving from Dallas to San Diego for his job and asked me to move there with him. I said yes but was not going to be able to move until mid-November. Aaron moved the end of September and told me that he wanted to come back to Dallas the weekend of October 13th to take me on a trip to the Texas hill country to thank me for being so supportive of the move. The plans for the weekend were to drive to New Braunfels Friday, stay in a hotel and go to a nice steakhouse for dinner. Saturday we had plans to stay in a cabin in Gruene and go to wineries in the area.

On the way to the steakhouse Friday, Aaron’s GPS had him pull down a gravel road which I noticed was a private drive. I was confused and thought we were lost. We pulled up to a white barn style pavilion where he told me that he had lied and had set-up a private dinner for us. As we started to walk up to the pavilion, I see a sign on the door that said “Forever Starts Here.” As I walked through the door, I saw lights hanging from the ceiling, white rose petals on the floor with a string lights creating a heart around our initials, our baby pictures, pictures throughout the past six and a half years and a chalkboard with “From Tulsa to forever, Brittney will you marry me.” When I turned around, Aaron was on one knee and asked me to marry him in which I said yes. He then said I have one more surprise. He took my hand and led me to a building next to the pavilion where both of our families were hiding. The rest of the weekend we all stayed at the lake house next to the pavilion and celebrated the joining of two families.
